Yes, you could open a basic bank account with a provisional license.

Lol. I guess it's either an average of the month's balance or is set over a certain amount of previous months, or everyone's would read £0.00 (or a negative amount with overdraft)- the balance when the account was opened.

I'm sure "worst" just means lowest.

Yeah, from what I could tell it was the lowest amount in any given month. Guess I'll be not transferring so much to my savings for the time being. Seems a bit backwards but what can you do. :o

The Barclays basic account is not credit scored. It only does an identity check.

They were probably trying to upsell you to a full account
yea they were. they said they ran a full credit check on me and said that i would have qualified for a full current account even though i told them specifically i was not interested.

Santander Basic Account is not credit checked.
  • Hi all, just wondering if anyone else had problem similar to mine..

Around the 9th of this month I decided to switch from halifax.. I applied in branch for a santander cash card basic account and showed my ID (disability living allowance entitlement letters tax credit letters etc) and was told all was ok, walked away with a printed copy of acc and sort numbers and told it was ok to switch all my payments to this account.. next few days recieved internet banking registration letters, I went into the branch following week to withdraw my income support as not had card through as yet to be told to basically go away and we will call you later in the day (even though they dont hold a contact number for me)

Finds out after standing around for 30 minutes that the account had been closed 3 days after opening and they were at a loss as to why it was closed????? 2 days later recieved the bank card followed by the pin number, these were all dated after the account was closed??

After a week or so of phone calls was told eventually that it had been closed by "processing" and still dont know why, was advised to come into the branch again and re apply for the same basic account, which I did... same thing happened again.. account closed no reason given.. managed to get the branch phone number to be told "on my lunch ring back later" eventually got told dont apply here again and go elsewhere..

They admitted I had enough ID and that the account does not need credit checking...

This all happened as I applied to natwest for a current account and they "lost" my ID which I took into the branch so they could photocopy it, took over 28 days for the application so had to re apply! No Thanks sorry for wasting your time or anything ha!

I honestly thought halifax and the ultimate reward account and cash card account I had with them were bad.. I dont work as I have a disablilty I choose not to drive so do not have a driving license and dont go on holidays so dont need a passport, I choose not to vote so am not on electrol roll and have recently moved house 8 months ago so.... seems strange all this to open a poxxy basic account.. they attitudes and lack of service from santander and natwest were disgusting typical case of "not my job not my fault"... had the usual crap about I should do a credit check just to get a better account.. sort of misses the point when I did explain about lack of ID and recent move and not on voters role....

    cheers (sorry for long post)

Hi I only have a note that I made myself that it was paid although barclaycard have now noted the files as settled so I assume that they can't take any money. I remember about 3 years ago when I settled this and a few other creditors that one of the creditors said it will only ever show it as being partially settled

Brit - How did you go on? Did you get the Barclays account?

I'm asking as my partner is going to be applying for one of these basic accounts shortly and we don't want him to be credit checked but I bank with Barclays and it makes sense for him to be with them too.

    thanks

Having a right hassle trying to open a basic bank account. So far I have applied for Natwest & Co-Op. Been accepted provisionally for both subject to an ID check.

Natwest looks to be out of the question, as I do not currently hold any of the acceptable ID documentation ( a provisional drivers license is not accepted ), and the Co-Op have sent me a letter asking me to take my ID into store or send in the post. This is fine however when I applied in store I provided my ID which they said was fine. The letter states that I need to provide one form of ID, with a table of what is acceptable included.

Listed in that table is the ID which I used in branch when making the application! This ID was photocopied and signed at the time.

They have also asked me sign and complete the agreement and standing order forms, and return with the ID, however neither of these forms were enclosed! Will not having these documentations cause a problem when going in store and trying to finalise the application of the account?
