Help. A & L stopped my account on 21/05 as thought it had been fraudently used. I rang them immediately and advised it hadn't & they took the stop of our account. Two days later, whilst on holiday, we received an email stating that a direct debit (set up on our card details) hadnt gone through. I rang them again & they said for some reason the account was taken off stop then put straight back on stop but the sorted it out.... so we thought. On our return to the UK 2 weeks later my husband's card worked fine, however, my card was declined twice in the same shop. I rang them & they said must be the machine as there was nothing on our account to say that my card is on stop. Received a new card 2 days later and did weekly shop and BOTH cards where declined. Rang them again & was advised to go to a machine and unlock my pin. Did this the following day & got the message 'your card issuer has declined your request' I had enough at this point and contacted the financial ombudsman who has sent in a letter of complaint I was advised that if I hadnt heard from A&L within 2 days to contact them but only got an address & wouldnt know where to start & its been week. In the meantime went to put some money IN at my local post office today and both cards were declined. Very annoyed now I rang A & L again only to be told that nothing on the system to say anything wrong with my card and the only way to get to my money is to go into town (15 min journey) & withdraw the money at the local branch. I ask when it would be sorted & was told as far as they are concerned nothing to sort & nothing they can do to sort it out as no problem on their system. Obvioulsy going to look into moving banks but wondered if anyone has any advise or has had similar problems, have banked with them for 12 years and was good up to now0

I have had shocking service from these this weekend
I opened a step account got a txt saying welcome to Natwest card on the way also got a letter the Next day saying " your application has been successful, we are delighted to welcome you to Natwest as a step current account holder your card and pin are on the way"
Was impressed with the speedy service till Friday when I rang to find out where my new debit card was was told the account had been closed at branch level and I had to go in to the Branch to reopen the account as it must have been a mistake. Off I went on Saturday morning to the Branch was seen pretty quick, Woman I spoke to was very dismissive basically saying some rubbish that even once the welcome letter and txt have been sent out they do further checks !!!!!! and I must have some level of fraud against me she basically called me a fraudster I was/am furious so I rang back the call center and the guy I spoke to said there was a note for me to ring this number if I wanted to discuss it of course they are only open mon-fri 9 till 5. He did also say the reason for the account closed on his screen said "account conduct" !!!!!! when I hadnt even got chance to get any cash in the account
surely any checks would have been BEFORE an account was opened, I have never heard of more checks been done after a account successfully being opened. I have Never had a letter or anything saying I didnt meet their criteria
Thats because the system accepts you however the cards & PINs etc are sent automatically. However when the manual intervention takes place thats when you could be declined and the account closed. It happens all the time its nothing new. It should be part of the new charter "not to tease customers there account have been successfully opened".Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

Its all sorted now, I finally got to phone the number the CS gave me on the saturday morning, Spoke to a really helpful guy who said it had been closed in Error as he couldnt see any reason as to why told me to go back to the branch to reapply. Made an appointment went in on the tuesday last week the appointment was with the Accounts Manager, sailed through the application. I qualified for a normal current account.
I was more mad at the fact this woman in the branch said I must have had a level of fraud against me :mad:0 -
Hi - we are just starting on a DMP and at the moment have a business account and a current account with Lloyds. We owe Lloyds money on credit cards which are on the DMP so I need to find another bank account where we can pay in business cheques as my husband is self employed (up to 25 a week) and when that money has cleared we can arrange direct debits for the mortgage etc.
I was wondering whether anyone knew if there is a limit on the Barclays basic account or the Nat West basic account or the Yorkshire Bank on the number of cheques you can pay in.
I do have a Card One Banking account - basic account - but it does not have a direct debit facility which I need for the mortgage, and also it takes 8 days for cheques to clear.

Hi there,
I went into my local Co-op bank branch on Saturday and filled in the application form for a Cashminder account. The woman took photocopies of my driving licence and council tax bill as proof of identity and said that if I get anything asking for those things that I can just ignore it as it has already been done.
How long do these basic accounts take to set up? When do you think I should have heard from them by?
Thanks in advance!::: Total Paid Since LBM (27/05/10): £4639.85 Official Debt Gone!! :T ::::AThat money talks, I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"~ VSP2011: #104 ~

Hi
I am looking at getting a basic current account to use for internet shopping/paypal etc. I have been using an old Barclays account for years for this, but only just realised they dont pay any interest at all. This is not a huge problem as I only have a working balance of a couple of hundred quid at a time, but it just annoys me that banks do this!! My salary and all my bills are through my A&L account, and I dont really want to switch this.
Looking at my options, I can.....
1. Stay with Barclays and carry on as usual
2. Open up a Santander in-credit account, transfer £1000 from current account and back each month (bank's suggestion - is that legal??)
3. Open an account with a completely separate bank, but will probably only get 0.1% interest anyway
4. Look at opening a basic account somewhere through Quidco to get some cashback if no interest is available.
I am open to all suggestions - all I really need is an account with a debit card, but one that preferably pays interest.

Hi all,
CUrrently on DMP have got coop basic a/c, visa debit. This card much better than the old electron badged card, however went to buy off John Lewis group and card declined as it comes up on their system as "electron". Called coop and explained and they told me that the card although badged as visa really is'nt a full visa debit card and as I am on DMP can't upgrade to full visa guarantee card. Not that I want that anyway.
Does anyone do a "full debit card facility" on a basic a/c,ie not electron linked just full debit facilities .
Thanks0
