    Hello

This info is terrific re Basic Bank Accounts, thank you. I'd like to ask a question though. If you have to actually go into the branch to open the account, don't you get a whole load of tricky questions as to why you don't want a current account and who you already bank with, why you want to change and have a new account with a different bank etc etc? I really want to go ahead and do this but I'm nervous about what they're going to ask me! Thanks, Tabs x

They won't ask those kinds of questions.

Well, I applied at the Co-op the other day and they wanted to know why I wouldn't want to transfer my existing bank account to them in order to get a better deal with their current account - didn't really know what to say, made me seem slightly odd to be turning down a better deal...

When you apply over the phone with the Co-op for their Cashminder account and they ask "why?" say "because it is the one I want." If they ask further questions continually demand they accept your application for your desired account.

Or you could just apply online for the Halifax Easycash account. One of the easiest to get.

I've just applied online for the Nat West Step account and I can't really work out if I've been successful or not. End process didn't say yes or no, just that they would put a pack in the mail within 28 days and I would need to sign application form and send back with any required 'original' paperwork. Presumably there's no guarantee yet of actually granting me the account...? Anybody had success with applying for this account with bad credit history?

NatWest (and RBS) send you the app to sign and send back with ID and then they decide if you have been accepted

Hmm, suspected as much. To try and speed things up do you think there's any point trying to apply in person to a different bank, or could that compromise this application. I really need a new bank asap in order to receive credits.
