It sounds like your being flagged on national hunter for application inconsistencies, and rather than bother to investigate them, they just decline the applications. You can test this if you like by opening an online savings account with someone like Barclays, if they decline it because you "don't meet their criteria" your considered a fraud risk and should stop applying for things for 13 months or you'll make it much worse for yourself

P.S i'm not saying your a fraud risk, just one possible reason why its happening to you and you don't see CIFIS markers on your credit file if you are suspected of fraud, only if you are considered at risk from fraud or have been a victim

i always get confused at why in 13 months you'll then be 'safe'?

Because the flag stays on your file for 12 months from the time you last commited the suspected fraudulenty activity , so on the first month after your time is spent its gone. 12 + 1 = 13:D

I'd try the Co-op and/or Lloyds TSB before I considered paying for a basic bank account. spending £150 per a year for something I can easily do myself seems a dreadful waste of money imho.

I would try going to your local santander branch and asking for a basic cash account. They usually give those out no problem. In 6 months they will bite your arm up to upgrade it to a full account with a debit card providing you don't bounce anything.

I dont understand how i can have got inconsistencies on my applications, i havent applied for that many things in the last year, most of the 12 searches on my file said they were unrecorded searches, and I never lie on application forms as i dont see the point- you will always get caught out eventually!
I am just going to CAB and see what they suggest, but i do appreciate every comment and bit of advice xx

HSBC Premier is a really good free acount, but you have to have over £50k in your account to qualify.

    Hope this helps

    Hi
We have a basic bank account with co-op, and when I went on tonight to check something I discovered they have cancelled our D/D's. When I rang they are closing our acc due to the 3 strikes and out. We have had a few prob's with DD's but over a mix up with dates and one for 10p over. Anyhow we are now going to have to try and sort out a new acc in the morning. Will anyone else take us on after this? Who else could we try? Any recommendations.
