Single people with multiple pets

Right - the very few people I keep in toch with one way or another have stated on various ocassions that I should "get out more, get a life" etc etc rather than live the way I do (read: me, dog, 4 cats minimum live interactions with other people unless thay too have pets and we meet on dog walks).
Accused me of "filling the gap" with pets etc etc
I do not feel any "gap" in my life by being single so do not quite follow their way of thinking....
They say they see me as "lonely old woman" with sevaral pets for company and they pity me... ermmmmm again I do not quite follow.
Am I really that weird to chose to live (happily) with my pets by myself?
Should I see a shirnk or something?
:rotfl:
Any other single people "filling the gap in their lives" with multiple pets and quite content with their lives?

If you need to see a shrink then by definition so should loads of people.
my opinion (for what its worth) is that your life style is YOUR business. As long as you are happy don't give a stuff about what people say. Personally I would tell them to take a long walk along a short pier.
They are possibly jealous and cannot understand how someone could be so happy so take no notice of them and just do your own thing, it obviously suits you.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
In "my" experience, women with more than two cats tend to be a bit peculiar, and men with more than two cats are usually very strange/creepy and should be avoided.
This is not a sweeping generalisation, its just what I have observed in the relatively small number of people that I have met.
But if you are happy that is what counts, not how you appear to others.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
As previously said - live your life the way you want - obviously not breaking any laws would be beneficial.
DH oftens works away and having three dogs and four, sorry five rats as company keeps me sane during those times.
Forget how other people percieve you - you know who and what you are, enjoy your petsLight travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.0 -
Why don't you join a dog forum so you can meet like minded people? I am a member of a staffy forum and there is a woman on there, early 30's that has 5 staffies and 7 cats. Far from being weird she has an active life with friends and stuff. She does agility with one staffy and shows another one and she is also setting up a cattery.
Just as a FYI as well she has a very good job, does pole dancing on the side (for a hobby). She may be a bit unusual as in she has a lot of animals but she is lovely and i would be proud to call her a friend. Unfortunately she lives a long way from me.
If you don't fancy a dog forum how about a cat one??? I think animal people are a certain "type" so meet as many as you can :-) Most of the forums do local meets.0 -
Thanks for posting everyone LOL
Ladymarmalade - but the point is I do NOT want "to meet more people" - I am perfectly happy as I am

Nothing wrong with it at all!
I am 35 single and my "When I win the Lotto" dream is to move to the middle of nowhere, and have lots of dogs, I even know what breeds and what I want to call them
I could quite happily go days without talking to anyone (as long as I could IF I wanted to, if you know what I mean?)
Of course when I do day-dream about being in this situation my Vet always seems to look like Hugh Jackman
but thats another story!
YDSMI wish I would take my own advice!0 -
I was single with 2 dogs, my 2 rabbits and 2 guinea pigs until OH moved in. I loved it

As someone else said, I think it is jealousy. And a lack of understanding too. It unsettles them. Some people cannot comprehend that you can be happy without following the norm ie husband/ wife and kids. I get it a lot, albeit only because I am single and soon to be completely alone as my dd will be going away to university as I lost my cat a few months ago.
Ignore these people if you are happy the way you are. Sometimes, in my most cynical moments, I think they envy us our freedom and happiness, so they want us to be as miserable as they are!
In my most impatient moments I'll reply (sweetly enough lol): "I'm happy. Why should I risk spoiling that?" Usually shuts them up :-)LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Not everyone can understand how other people don't succumb to social expectation and do what everyone else does. It's your life, live it the way that makes sense to you and which causes you most happiness. It is so much healthier to be single and happy, than to be married and unhappy.
I think I am like you in many ways, though I only have three cats. They don't give me grief like other humans tend to do.0 -
Guess what?
Tidied up the flat, fantastic weather outside - going to take Zara for a nice slow (her poor legs) walk in the woods....
Will come back home and everything will be exactly as I left it... what a bliss
Thanks for posting....:)0
