Need some help hiring a car in Spain

Hi everyone, I'm been having a bit of bother finding a decent car-hire company (and cheap!) to book a car for a five day stay in Spain next month (Flying into Reus airport)

Most of the car-hire companies on the price-search websites seem to get bad feedback on review sites (Argus and Auto Europe to name a couple)

Cheers : )

    Hi
We seem to find the cheapest prices are via https://www.doyouspain.com, but then we do tend to book in advance. They are agents, but have used autoeurope before with no problems. Have used record too.

Thanks for the replies. So those of you that have used Auto Europe, have you had any extra charges put on your credit card after you've got back from your hols? (I've read some horror stories about them you see)

EDIT: DoyouSpain? seems like a very cheap site. Do you get all of your insurance waivers etc?

I've used doyouspain.com many times in the last few years and never had any problems.
They use various hire car companies such as AurigaCrown & Goldcar but have always been in airport desks rather than a minibus ride away and come with "full no excess insurance" for normal groups of cars although tyres, glass, lost keys and wrong fuel are excluded, this can normally be covered for 3 or 4€ a day. They always used to include 1 free additional driver but having had a quick look at their website now I couldn't see that anymore so you'd have to check with them
I sometimes don't take the extra insurance but last time I used them in Valencia we were staying at a villa with another couple so took it as it was only €21 for the week which was very lucky as the villa had an underground garage with an up and over door which closed as we were going out denting the roof and cracking the windscreen, When I returned the car I asked if they wanted to fill in a claim form and the girl at the desk looked at the hire agreement and said "no problem" as I'd taken the extra glass insurance and just to go and catch my flight!
Another one I used early last year when for some reason doyouspain were expensive was hispacar.com which again was all inclusive, no excess, in terminal and I had a Peugot 207 with about 2000km on it. May be worth comparing prices.

I seem to end up booking through someone different each time I hire a car in Spain. I just used www.economycarhire.com . They were considerably cheaper than any other quotes and the hire was from a reputable company with their office in the airport terminal (rather than someone operating from a van in the car park!)

I had originally booked through doyouspain.com but the price they were going to charge had gone up from the quote and, after claiming "no hidden extras" they were going to charge for an additional driver. They didn't reply to my email querying these differences and so (after waiting a week) I went to economycar hire.

We've used record a few times with no probs, but we usually book through Holiday Autos
  • Wow, you lot on here are VERY helpful, thanks. Has anyone been charged for a full tank of petrol (instead of letting you "top up the tank") when hiring from these companies? (I have heard it's common practice in Spain if you hire a car over three days or more)

In all of my experiences of hiring cars in Spain I have always been charged for a full tank of fuel and return empty. And boy do they charge, last time it was 70 euros for a compact car, I only used it for 3 days and returned it with a 2/3rds full tank. Needless to say I have stopped hiring cars now.:(
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

See paragraph 4.2 which seems to suggest that car is supplied with full tank and as long as it is returned full, you will not be charged for refuelling..or have i got it wrong??
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
