How about charity shops in a posh area for your work clothes. You can get some lovely stuff for a fraction of what you would pay for it new....

I do buy books and things from charity shops. I have never really looked at the clothing to be honest. I will likely buy....

    4 pairs of trousers (Burtons)
5 or 6 short sleeve shirts (H&M, Burtons, Next)
    1 good shirt/tie for parent's evenings (Next)

My subject is very practical and I have decided that the suits I have will do me another year as I rarely wear them anyway.

Have been invited down to London to visit a friend from drama school during half term in October. Just got a REALLY good deal on Virgin Trains. Just need to hope that he can sort out some good theatre tickets!

Ooooh excellent :) fun times ahead!
I'm no good at charity shops either apart from things like books.
Glad I don't have to buy work clothes, it'd stress me out

Yeah, I think I would be funny about 2nd hand clothes- not sure why though!

Hopefully he will be able to get company tickets for some good shows in London. Pity some of the shows I want to see are closing soon.

Very pleased with my efforts regarding the debt. I could even look at a rental place but I think I will wait until I have some cold hard cash saved.

Hope all is well with you.

Good luck with your journey. I hated living at home too so I know how you feel.

Keep up the good work and you will be in your own place in no time.
Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.
  • Had a letter from Halifax about PPI on the credit card. Apparently I had PPI for a couple of years at a percentage of the outstanding balance. It was an Amazon card to start with and I remember ditching the PPI when it rebranded to Halifax.

Have found a couple of old statements but only appeared to have paid a few pounds PPI each month at the most. Oh well.

Thank you so much Dorset. I moved out to go to uni so it feels even worse having to return home as an adult. Damn my ex

Crikey, I've just read through your entire thread - you're going to be debt free in no time!

I hate buying clothes for work, it seems like such a waste of money and I've noticed a recent disturbing trend for buying from Marks and Spencers. I'm getting frumpier by the day. :) Charity shops may be the final straw.

If you can bear another few months with your parents I'd definitely save up and buy a flat. You can only get a flat for £60k where I live (Manchester) if you're retirement age.
    Barclaycard [STRIKE] £2770 [/STRIKE] now £2690.
    O/D £500. Weight loss: 12/28lbs :o Savings owed [STRIKE] £3000 [/STRIKE] now £2250 :( Total debt: [STRIKE] £6760 [/STRIKE] now £5440
