One could argue that the OP's actions in continuing to drive the car were covered by the defence of "duress of circumstance", caused by KwikFit's well-known policy of corporate criminality.

Just don't repeat the error and take it into National Tyres & Autocare.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

K, well AA turned up (within 5 mins) and checked for leaks (none) so diagnosed a faulty master cylinder, they towed me to my garage (who MOT'd it last week) and I left my key and a note for them to check it tomorrow.
I've royally peed off my brother in law who had arranged for one of his mechanic mates (who I don't know) to come at look at it at some point, but I think I've done the right thing by taking it to my garage..

So your brakes failed and you got a quote you didnt like then continued driving the car knowing full well that if a kid ran out in front of you you wouldnt be able to stop? You couldnt make it up. People like you should not be allowed to drive.

Will someone think of the children!!!

OP I think I would have done the same thing. :)

jeez has the arms got boring these days? and all imagrated to motoring?

what a bunch you lot are.

but then again if most of you unpleasant people are in forums then theres less of you to come accross on the street is suppose thats a plus point.

OP, kw!k !!!!!! isnt somewhere anyone should go TBH only interested in one thing, getting as much cash out of your account as possible,

im suprised they didnt tell you that your suspension springs, suspension, hand brake cable, catalitic converter, O2 sensors, plugs, ht leads, oil, oil filter, anti roll bars, anti roll rubbers, tyres all round, headlamp bulbs all needed replacing all for the amazing small price of a river front apartment in london.

Avoid anywhere that pays it mechanics a "bonus" for extra selling. That goes for MOST of these big tyre/exhaust chains.

It'll be interesting to see what they f*cked up.... Make sure you get a written report/statement from whoever looks at it! This could go down the legal route if KF let you knowingly drive a car which they'd left in a dangerous condition.

On a side note, as long as the brakes stop the car correctly, it will not fail the MOT for brakes.... However it would have advisory notes detailing any issues the tester noticed.

I have a signed report from Kwik Fit on everything that was apparently checked which I will be showing to my garage tomorrow.

Sometimes, the 'holier than thous' on here really do make me laugh.

For God's sake, she was confused and upset by the extortionate (and very likely highly exaggerated) Kwikfit estimate and the fact that her car was suddenly showing a problem.

How was she supposed to get the car home? Hire a wrecker? Any idea how much that costs?

And of course you'd be saying the same thing if the OP had had an accident, and the police had thrown the book?

The car has been condemned by a reputable garage (whether or not they exaggerated is immaterial here). In the absence of any evidence to the contrary, the OP would have been in trouble if they had lost control of the vehicle -- potentially dangerous driving.

oh for petes sake, no one in their right mind drive stupidly knowing a braking problem is before them with their car.

the OP wouldt of done 60 MPH in a 30 zone knowing that the brakes are faulty.

she would of taken her time, kept her distances, and extended her braking distances, and kept her speed down commonsense would of told OP that.

the choice to drive it was ultimatly THE OP's. if at any stage they thought they didnt have the ability to keep control would of pulled over and arranged for transportation of the car to the independant garage or home.

this driving with undue care and attention thing is starting to wear thin it didnt happen, so pushing an opinion on the OP.

weve all driven short and long distances with problems with our vehicles, so pushing this type opinion is hypocritical.

Did the aa man take all 4 wheels off for a really good look ? I bet not. It could be a trivial leak but enough to have sucked a fair bit of air into the system over recent days. If it is the master cylinder you can buy a repair kit for it instead of the huge cost of a new one. Don't assume it is the master cylinder yet.
