MG : This website is an example of as niche a blog as you could think of. She got picked up by a radio programme - then got a publishing deal - now runs another website on (among other things) decluttering. A real Tim Ferris example - but she still posts on the original website to keep up interest. Looking forward to your new blog. :j:j:jBut how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0

Here at TMIF Hovel it's chaos. We've been decorating the bedroom today, and each time the roller touched the wall, a bit more old paint peeled off. Not sure what to do about it. It's carnage here.
I echo what Tricia has said. When we had our nightmare of a front room ceiling (the paint was reacting with old wall-paper paste and both the old and new paints were bubbling off creating a lovely cracked eggshell effect ) we used Dulux Trade Primer Sealer (other brands are of course available). It was expensive but it sure did the job :T.
Takes hat off in admiration to Tricia learning to plaster :T:T:T. I would love to have our whole house plaster-skimmed top to bottom but have drawn the line at filling the most obvious holes / cracks and sanding flat.
Good luck Tmif, will join in the sacrifices and making offerings to the Painting and Decorating Gods for you.0 -
Sorry for deleted posts, have just learned I am an emotional cripple, I need to see a psychologist or be in a ward for people with mental illness. Am warped and twisted and disturbed.
This house belongs to other half, I gave mine up along with everyone else when i moved in here, and I have nothing as yet to move out with. I dont know where to turn or who to tell because I have no-one here but my kids, My faily, (dad and step-mum are all in England). He wants me to leave now. Have told him I need time to get a deposit together etc, and he said my life is going to be hell till I get that, so i dont know what to do. Am in bits.
I did lose my rag earlier big time but i now know thats it totally.
The big talk we had the other night didnt get us anywhere, everything I said in between times according to him is me having a go. i'm a know all who knows everything (I'm not I just check my facts when I talk about stuff).
He has just jumped in the van and driven I presume to his daughters who hates me anyway. Sorry for the waffle but I really dont know where else to turn.0 -

Plastering is just large scale cake icing. :rotfl: I did the last coat with a palette knife from the kitchen ( had to be replaced). Gives 'real' plasterers heart attacks but is cheap (when did you last cost in your time?) and is strangely satisfying - probably because it has a mystique - just like breadmaking which I also do well. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
I would love to say that please come and live with us but I guess with your job it would be little bit too long to commute.
I really don't know what else to say, would you be able to find a rented place that allows you to have your dog? Do you have savings? Surely half of those are yours. Do you qualify for legal aid? What about asking your local CAB?"Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Well sounds like he's handling this in a mature and reasonable way.
Deep breath and pop the kettle on hon - if it wasn't for the fact we have two cats and I am babysitting a daft collie I would come around and get you tonight.

fantasia, you have a right to stay in the house, and the house does belong to you as well, no matter if your oh bought it before you married. I'm sure that over the years you contributed to the house to you have a right to it and it's equity.

I have been reading book by Brene Brown called The Gifts of Imperfection. This is what caught my eye today:
"People may call what happens at midlife "a crisis" but it's not. It's an unraveling - a time when you feel a desperate pull to live the life you want to live, not the one you're "supposed" to live. The unraveling is a time when you are challenged by the universe to let go of who you think you are supposed to be and to embrace who you are... ...The universe is not short of wake-up calls. We're just quick to hit the snooze button.""Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."
