Raj Persaud writes a whole chapter on procrastination in his Motivated Mind book. It opened my eyes to why Mr C doesn't get things done. I am not normally a procrastinator and it is very rare that I put off things that I have to do. However Mr C does this a lot. Raj Persaud talks about how it tends to be perfectionists who procrastinate. It is easier to say that something hasn't been done, than to do it to a standard that the person involved would not be happy with and risk criticism. Made sense to me. He also talked about how people make things bigger than they actually are when thinking about them and thus overwhelming themselves.

Oh dear the bits in bold apply to me :o I am EXTREMELY guilty of doing the last bit in bold :o:o

Sorry robsmum I can't help. My sewing machine is about 35 years old  and made by Frister and Rossman :o But if you can buy one of these then I guess it's longevity is a recommendation LOL

    Morning ladies

First day of school holidays and the boys are already driving me mad. :o Feeling a little sad and worried as DS1 left primary school yesterday :( and starts at new school in Sept. He has ASD so I am very worried about he will fit in at the new school. His teacher said on his school report that she thought he would be traumatised and find it very difficult:(:(.

    Wishing everyone a happy day.

Very interesting. I am learning that tasks I have been putting off rarely take as long as I think they will, are often not as horrid as I think and give great satisfaction when done.

Holiday packing is a big one for me. I am a perfectionist but I also don't like being away from home overnight so I think it is a combination of the two plus the desire not to spend money on buying things we have but have been left at home.

Off to the shower now and to pack the holiday toiletries before I allow myself back down the stairs.

    That will be followed by:
    put washing on the line
    ironing
    haircut
    renew car insurance
    ironing
    put on wash 2
writing food shop list for holiday
    taking DS3 to tennis
    doing food shop/petrol shop
    collecting DS3 from tennis
cooking food to take on holiday
    watering the garden

Best I get a wiggle on!

Oh dear 40SM.......have school not done anything to help his transition to secondary school? What is secondary schools Special Needs Policy? I am not yet in that position as my DS is only 5 BUT I would have thought the SENCO as his Primary school would have discussed his transition with you rather than just writing a rather negative note on his school report :eek:

Morning All, what a glorious day it is. Today I will not procrastinate or engage in displacement activities. If i get my CV done today then I will have the rest of my staycation to enjoy.

Ah, so that's why I do it, thanks Cheri. I didn't even know I was a perfectionist until a couple of years ago when a friend suggested that I might be. I had a think about it and decided she was right. I also do the overwhelm thing too.

So, having drafted my CV yesterday I shall do the letter of application today and email it off. I also have another couple of Frog letters that I've done notes for so now the actual letters need to be written. If I can achieve all three today, I shall be a very happy Ocean.

Hope you are feeling better. I'm really impressed that you are still working flat out on top of everything else that is happening.
