    And from me too.
Crickett - would you consider speaking to your boss after you have seen the doctor? Then you can refer to his advice.

I spoke to my boss. She is going to refer me to Occupational Health. Before I do that, I need to go to my GP and get a formal diagnosis, so that Occupational Health and GP can speak to one another. I have my GP appointment on Tuesday at 7am. Going to speak to my homeopath about it anyway, and say that I would prefer to manage it naturally, but if I can't, then I can't. And if OH needs to speak to my GP, then fair enough.

Thanks for all the vibes and hugs and support. I really appreciate it.

  • MG I hope you had a good old reminisce last night for the solstice - it sounds like a wonderful way of remembering those past :) such a lovely, lovely idea.

crickett I'm sorry to hear about everything, I'm another one who has done the tablets and not done the tablets in different circumstances. First time round it was definitely the right thing to do, dealing with a lot of unpleasant things a long way from home with no support network so drugs were the way - an emotional crutch as my GP referred to them.

last year when everything came tumbling out with my ex and all the unpleasantness of cancelling a wedding, I felt I didn't want or need them - I was just feeling unbelievably sad - the distress that Firewalker mentions. My (different by now) GP agreed, gave me some short term sleeping tablets so I could get some better rest (which knocked me senseless so ended up only taking 2 nights worth) in the first instance, and then I have been having some counselling to deal with all the horrendous aftermath of what ex did. I am lucky to have found a brilliant counsellor, some of the ones I have had before have done more harm than good.

so seek some advice as you say, from as many sources as you can, and then make your decision.

I will be thinking of all those who need the vibes today for interviews, tax-related phone calls , pain relief :o but would also like to ask for some myself please :) I am possibly playing my harp tonight for the first time ever in a pub with a band, for a jam/open mic kind of night.

My harp has some minor techy gremlins - it's an electric one so some loose wires I think - and I am hoping my friend can help me fix it (at his bike workshop of all places :rotfl:as I know he will have an array of tools to try!), and if we can mend it, I will go to the pub. If we can't fix it, I will take it as a sign that tonight is not the night, and will just go to listen.

I really, really, want this, it's a big part of the master plan so am hoping it all comes together. And if it doesn't, there will be a reason for it that has not yet been revealed! :rotfl:

Lionheatedgirl, this is interesting. There is research done that harp music is very good for depression - this is all about the laws of the Universe and there is a law of rhythm. Studies show that the vibrations of the harp are of a kind that make us feel better and lift our mood. You seem to have just provided empirical evidence that this may not work - a harpist on AD...But then again, it could explain how the second time you recovered from the trauma without....

    Interesting.

Back in the office for me again today – all this travelling and late nights is taking its toll :o But I’m stopping with a friend tonight before heading up to Newcastle tomorrow, so that’s one less train trip at least! :T <yawn>

I have heard that too Firewalker - and interestingly, the first time, when I was 19, I had given up the harp for a science degree. I had a serious accident while rockclimbing, had a long painful recovery and was away from home and then dropped out of university, and unsurprisingly fell apart.

For the last 3 years I have been playing again, having had a long break. It is fair to say I have previously had a very, very difficult relationship with music, having been in the hothouse as a child/teenager, playing mostly for parental approval. So for me it had never been a therapeutic experience, as it was so caught up with the pursuit of perfection.

I have a better relationship with music now, as I am playing for myself and (mostly) enjoying the music I am making. The pressures and challenges are different now, but at least now, if I don't want to practice, ultimately I don't have to. That then brings a whole load of other emotional responses to do with having a stressful day job and trying to balance a second 'career' combined with all the physical demands of playing (more on my diary!).

This time when things went wrong, I did have the harp, although i couldn't play properly while everything was going on as it would trigger such strong emotions I couldn't get through a piece at home without blubbing. Very difficult as I am a working musician performing at people's weddings/various other things so had to force myself at times! However it has helped me consider who I am and what I want, and again the counselling has been a part of that when the drugs wouldn't have been.

Harp therapy is an increasingly popular field - there are specially designed small, light, portable harps which are designed for therapeutic use. The harp is one of the few instruments that sounds gorgeous from the off, and you don't have to make the note yourself by blowing/pressing/bowing/hearing it in your head first etc.

thanks everyone for the vibes :)
  • Hi Ladies,

I am just popping out of lurkdom to say that you're all fab!

The positivity and energy from this thread is infectious, so much so that in the last 4 days i have started on my massive Frog.... decorating my lounge/diner.

I have stripped all walls, painted some woodwork, decided on and bought wallpaper, and......Taken apart a kitchen cupboard that had one of those pull out lader unit things in it (waste of space IMHO) taken down the cupboard, and knocked through the wall into the under stairs storage area that i have been wanting to do for the last 8 (:o) years!

I feel fab, and although i am not doing any decorating today, (shift at charity shop this afternoon followed by swimming after school) i hope that Thursday and Friday i can finish all the woodwork and possibly paint the ceiling.

So Hugs and positive vibes to all that need them and a great big Thankyou to you all from me.

P.S MG i shall be looking at making a pantry type cupboard out of my under stairs area, so will be looking forward to getting a store cupboard going like yours.

Keep going ladies, remeber .....it's on it's way! :D:D
