Crickett sorry you've got an attav=ck of the 'blah's' but try to enjoy some time out from all the recent stuff and maybe just plod for a few days? (Hard for us lot, I know!)

Clare I'm just waiting for some feedback from the agency now on what to do next but job sounds interesting, if a big step up (again) but I'l go for it in the interest of variety, money, something to put on the CV and well, why the hell not! Ages ago I posted about my FEAR that I wouldn't get anything else after this and I now see that the FEAR was silly and unfounded and that there are great things out there for all of us if we pro actively go after them. I've never been one to sit and wait for anything and my big sis, who arrives back from Oz for a few weeks tomorrow is the same.

Im going to the airport to meet her and will take her home on the train. My bro is leaving work early for the day so we'll all be there together. This is a rare treat in a family of wanderers!!! A few weeks ago I was out with other managers and one bascially implied that my mum couldn't have been that great as she has 3 children and no grandchildren but she was and is an amazing mum who has done that rare thing of giving us all the confidence to be as we are. None of us are particularly conventional it's true but when we get round that table tomorrow there'll be a lot of laughs for sure. So looking forward to it.

How incredibly rude of her! There was lots I was going to say on the subject but in the event Cheri has said it so much better! How sad that there are still people out there who seem to believe that a woman's role in life is simply to act as a brood mare - if people want kids then great, if people want kids in the future but not *yet*, great also, if people DON'T want kids - that too should be fine. What is not fine is the sort of person who feels it's acceptable to put others down for any of the above. As someone without children, who has never wanted them, I know all too well how regularly we get discriminated against - Family Railcards are an example - cheaper train travel, but ONLY if you have kids in tow. Blatant discrimination.
    Ooooo

I've been asked to teach on the first year accounting modules next year (in a past life I did a PGCE, but never really took to teaching in schools, hence why I ended up as an accountant instead).

I really don't know what to do - on one hand it's a real compliment, on the other hand, the idea of standing there in front of them fills me with dread - I remember the feeling well from doing it on my teaching practices at school.

He's emailed to ask what I'd like to teach, and I don't know how to reply

    (Did I mention, it's £40 an hour?)

Woop! Excellent news - what a fantastic vote of confidence! :T Well done TMIF.

Your hesitation is saying yet - think it through rationally, what is the worst that can happen? You "dry up" and forget what you were going to say? Notes and preparation take care of that. At £40 an hour I can't imagine that you can afford to say anything other than "Yes please!" :D

MAHOOSIVE frog chomped here this morning as the text for the three sections of my website that needed writing is now done. :T I got an email from my lovely website chappie asking if I might be able to get them done by the weekend, and instead I sat and wrote them there and then. Go me! In researching them I have also discovered that there is a Society of Virtual Assistants which may prove to be of interest. I also have the possibility of some work with an old friend of mine over the next few weeks - she ideally wanted someone for today (it's a way below my *ideal* hourly rate but she'd be fun to work with and it's all income - she has also been set up doing essentially what I am wanting to do for three years now so would be great to see how she's managing things) but I couldn't do that - she does know I will be interested when she gets snowed under again so fingers crossed! What's more, the work this morning researching stuff has given me a few ideas and upped my motivation levels towards the whole thing again, so win-win I think!

Marru - positive vibes going strong!!

    Cheri,

take a deep breath and calm down; as a start. Then remember 'your wish is my command'. Stop focusing on how you will miss the deadline and start believing that you will meet the deadline. I am not sure how this stuff works but it does - you will notice that small opening start to appear (I suspect you just start noticing them then because you are sensitised) and you just have to grab them.

Yes, these people can be annoying - but when you get annoyed is when things fold.

Gosh, I am really buying into all this metaphysics stuff - but it is working for me!

    FW

FW - with respect, this is a situation in which Cheri could find herself in breach of contract here, and requires a slightly more visibly pro-active approach than sending out a request to the universe. It's great that people are believing in the "power of thought" thing, but it is dangerous and inappropriate to believe that it works in all scenarios. If it DID come to a breach of contract scenario then saying "I asked the Universe" isn't really going to cut the mustard with a lawyer, I'm afraid.

Cheri - can you speak with the lawyers involved and ask if they can get you an extension on what I assume is the planned exchange of contracts date? It may well be possible, and even if you don't end up needing it, having the knowledge that it is an option will help you breathe a little easier. have all your back-up paperwork and notes on calls you have made, what people have said etc handy and offer to send those on if required. Remember, you have done your bit, it's others who are not playing ball. If your chap doesn;t ring you back on the BUTTON of the hour he said, call again and state that you would like to be put through to his line manager. Ask your questions clearly and conscisely, and once you have answers repeat them back to ensure clarity. Ask clearly "what is the reason that you are not releasing these funds as you promised you would" and then from there "what can I do to speed things up" - if you get no sensible answers ask to speak with the next person up the chain. If necessary and it is the sort of organisation where this will work ask to be put through to Customer services as you would like to make a formal complaint.

Good luck - and remember, count to ten, and lots of coffee/tea!

Thanks everybody. FW. I hear you with regards to keeping calm, which is why I came on here to rant because I knew that getting out of my system would calm me down (sorry everybody). I also agree that opportunities do open up. In this case I think that this is where the calm, rational thinking facilitates the "opportunity" to assess the situation with a clear mind and work out how to move it forward which I think I am managing.
EH - great post and spot on with what you are saying. I did not get the call back Cheery, I actually rang him back again and he spoke to me. In typical legalese speak he started to quote some paragraphs to me which made no sense. Top and bottom of it is that he has had to write to another person (he did this yesterday:eek:) to ask for permission to do something! I asked him to explain exactly (in plain english) what he requires. I then rang the person he had written to who said that they hadnt received the letter but when they do they would refer it to their solicitors, kindly gave me their solicitors number) I rang the solicitors who will be calling me back but they think that the solicitor who originally dealt with me several years ago may need to be involved. So I rang them, the person I need to speak to is off today but promised they would get her to call me back tomorrow. Meantime the first guy is happy for me to organise an email response to him if I can (well he would as I am actually doing his job). He has also agreed that once it is all sorted he will do a same day money transfer.
In the meantime, I have spoken with Austria solicitor who has told me to remain calm, this happens often and she is sure that it will all come together. So laid back.
Thanks again for allowing me to rant ladies.

EH, I have been thinking for some time now about virtual PA work, I did start to look into setting things up but work became hectic. I would still love to get it up and running so any help or advice would be really appreciated.

EH, I did say that thinking about getting it sorted affects hoiw one acts to get it sorted. Feeling upset stops you from achieving that. It was not as 'new age' as it may have been interpreted;).

Acting may involve moving up a step in the hierarchy, trying to bypass a person - but will dpend on specifics I am not familiar with.

I'm probably not the right person to advise at this point in time Cheri, although if I can help in any way I;d be happy to - as I have been shamelessly procrastinating and have not really got going with my project at all at the moment. One or two things have clicked into place over the last 24 hours though and I do start to feel now as thought I might be in the right place to start moving forwards....*crossed fingers*! There are some interesting websites out there though - worth a google for VA or Virtual Assistant

Food: Had my porridge for breakfast again. Getting quite habit-forming now on "home" days. Lunch was a bowl of salad leaves from the balcony with some left over radishes sliced through, and a red pepper. I cooked some lentils and dressed them while they were still hot with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and then poured over the leaves etc. Am now sitting here noshing through a big plate of assorted fruit - nectarine, kiwi, melon, the last of the strawberries and an apple. :D Dinner tonight will be something at the speedway - maybe a jacket spud.

MY £2.15 cup of coffee (sorry rent on a table) resulted in me creating a plan that outlines exactly what I need to put in place each day for the next 365 days.:j

I have even Mind mapped 43 of these days (double :j)

And halfway through my friend called to say she was going to be in St A and could she meet me for a coffee (so I ended up buying one and getting one bought for me), then when she left the Barista brought me another as he wanted someone to talk Mind Mapping to.

So I need to go and do something active with the boys this afternon because I have got three cups of coffee inside me

I think I have been "over - treated " :rotfl:
