FW - well done on the postive biopsy result. I recently had one too and also got a positive result so know how you feel!

MG - Oh I so wish I was as organised as you with the store cupboard and shopping. It is just not my forte. I hate shopping and even worse I hate cooking, so go for convenience or takeaway :o more times than I should really. Unfortunately it just doesn't float my boat. I can read a lovely recipe that one of you lovely ladies post on here and think that sounds lovely and easy, but the I don't actually make it. :o

Crickett - I second the don't weigh yourself after exercise thing! This really is a gradual change. Think about it - what do you expect to happen after your exercise? Where exactly would the weight have gone? Out in sweat perhaps - but sweat doesn't weight much... Exercise makes a LONG TERM difference - it helps your body work more efficiently and over time you will find you burn more fat even when you don't exercise - but that's probably not something you'll actually notice yourself.

Weigh yourself ONCE A WEEK - of course your weight will change each day, but there will be an overall downward trend even if it's over the course of several weeks. If you weigh yourself several times a week and get disheartened every time it goes up? Then you're going to be disheartened half the time, which is going to lead to you eating grumpily (at least it does with me!) and therefore it going up more...

Concentrate on what you ARE doing - eating well and increasing your exercise (and do this gradually if you're not used to it - don't want to do yourself a mischief and find yourself unable to exercise at all!) - and the weight WILL come off - you don't want to lose it all in one week, this is a gradual changing of habits to someone who eat healthily and exercises, rather than to those of someone on a diet forever.

Hope that makes sense, consider that a hug and a kick up the backside if you will :D

Can I please ask a question about exercising? I have done a huge workout this morning. 1 hour of exercise. 30 minutes on the Wii Fit plus doing yoga and muscle workout and then 30 minutes on EA sports active... which frankly was a killer. I was sweating cobs by the end of it, so thought i would weigh myself and see how much weight i had lost. Bad move. I appear to have put on 5 pounds in 3 days. Hubby was telling me that it isn't a relevant weight... but it doesn't feel like that. Geez. 5 pounds in 3 days. Is that even possible? I had erm... been to the loo before the exercise, so that isn't the problem. I have not been drinking enough in the last couple of days so it might be water retention I suppose... but... :( So disappointed.

Does this mean that my life from here on in is going to no alcohol, and strictly lettuce?! Okay, sorry, that is totally melodramatic. I know that good food makes me feel better than crappy food, but it is nice to think that I can have them if I choose to have them. And I know that I made stupid decisions last week in my eating, so I am not surprised my weight isn't stable... but 5 pounds in 3 days!! I now weigh MORE than I did when I started this fitness phase. which is just a tad demotivating. :(

I really feel for you because Im in exactly the same position today. There are lots of things that might be contributing to weight gain. Exercise does make you retain water on a short term basis so that may be contributing. Also Im a lady of a certain age and know that my hormones particularly oestrogen is contributing as is the consumption of salt that also makes water retention more likely. Its absolutely gutting but its true what your husband says. Its not a true reflection. I have been told to weigh once a month first thing in the morning, naked! Wish i could follow my own advice though!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

MG, that is great. I always stock up on the basics like pasta and rice but never quite sure what else to do. Your suggestion of a yearly menu plan is excellent. Thanks for that.

PS - what is approved foods?

    Hi guys,

Was at work all day yesterday, then out last evening (cost me £50ish for a not so brilliant night!), so sorry if I miss anyone:

Crickett: very well done! :T Your organisational skills are the envy of me. I kept seeing that you were working on this 'portfolio', but I must have missed the post where you mentioned what it was about (or you didn't say to keep things more annonymous). Well done - it sounds like it was a big project, whatever it was!

Claire: sorry about your hurty tooth. Hope it un-hurts soon. :(

Firewalker: well done on your positive results (that may be the second time I've saif that!)

Tricia: thanks for the tip about sewing machines and leather not being friends. ;) I was thinking of maybe making a satchel out of a brightly coloured material as block coloured ones seem to be 'in' at the minute, in keeping with the colours of the season. I saw some in a magazine the other day, but they were literally hundreds of pounds.

MG: I LOVE houmous, but whenever I try to make it, it always goes wrong: I don't seem to have the right proportions. Do you have a recipe that has proportions in it, or is it 'a squeeze of this' and 'a doollop of that'? Thanks!

To anyone I've missed out - sorry! :o

Must dash: a work frog, a two-christenings-tomorrow frog and a must-bake-bread-to-take-to-christenings frog to eat before tomorrow.

Have a good day, ladies! :D

    Good Morning

I'm feeling much better today, I actually slept for nearly 12 hours without waking up in pain :) My face isn't so swollen either, its still sore, but I can open my mouth a bit more and talk better today. So I think the anti-bi's are working :).

Porridge for beakkie which was lovely :) just finishing coffee then I'm going to have a tidy around. Take Anti-bi's and painkillers.

  • Mornin' all - sleepy and sore today (all this painting you know :D). Dd delivered to Saturday job, weekly shop done - all in under budget including 2 bottles of wine :T.

Now I like the idea of having a dedicated store cupboard that you "shop" from - hmnn you've certainly got the old brain cells working on that one MG.

Crickett well done for all you have achieved on your portfolio - you go girl :j.

Re your weight (and mine) - I am currently learning about energy balance and this formula says it all:

Energy in (kcals consumed) = Energy out (kcals burnt) plus or minus change in change in energy stored (weight in the form of muscle or fat).

Your 5lbs will most probably be fluid as you would have needed to be in positive energy balance to the tune of 17,500 kcals to have gained 5lbs of fat weight. (1lb fat = 3,500kcal). You would have had to go some to have eaten an additional 17,500 kcals over 3 days.

So take heart my lovely, as Greenbee says, consistently consume less kcals than you burn and the body fat stores will go down - they have too according to the laws of physics. (Well that's what I'm hoping for myself :o).

Today's frog - the front room ceiling - will it be done, will I procrastinate. Off to have another cup of tea while I decide :rotfl:.

Cricket - can I just say that 'scales are for fish'

if you want to self-sabotage then weigh, if you don't put the scales in the loft / in a cupboard or in the charity shop

and jolly well done for finding you like the wii fit thingy !!!
