I am not saying that there won't be bargains to be had with the 40% voucher but do some research and remember it is 40% OFF Threshers price and NOT 40% OFF what you would expect to pay for a bottles of champagne elsewhere.

    You are absolutely right!

I'm glad you got in here on this one and I'm aslo really disappointed that SO many people are going to read this in Martin's Tips and think that this is definately a good deal :(

The mark up in Threshers is HUGE and they only way to get a half decent price is always to buy three bottles when you shop there.

If you consider that Moet & Chandon is £29.99 in Threshers and £18.98 in Asda, then even with 40% off, it's still £18 a bottle. I call that competitive, but not a bargain! The voucher is probably good for one bottle, but not neccessarily if you're stocking up for Chistmas!

Sainsburys are currently offering 25% off six bottles and Tesco Wine are currently running an offer which is at least 25% off all wines PLUS there's a £15 off 50 voucher for Tesco Wine. Yesterday I could have bought Perrier Jouet for £12.50 a bottle! Shop around and you'll find better deals. :(

    Hi all,
My local wine shop is thresher - they have been running a buy 2 get one free promotion for the last year or so on ALL wine and champagne they stock. As you might expect, they have whacked up the prices per bottle. Effectively, if you buy 3 bottles at the same price, you get 33% discount anyway. I reckon their prices (per individual bottle) are about 25-30% more than other outlets - hence you get an effective discount of about 10%. for example, their jacobs creek chardonnay is about £4.50 per bottle when you buy three (£6.49 per bottle bought individually) and its usually £5 in the supermarket. There is no exception I have found, in every case their prices per bottle are whacked up to offset the discount. This voucher cannot be used alongside the 3 for 2 promotion. So, with this voucher, you get 40% off prices that are about 30% higher than market prices. I reckon that you are getting between 10-15% discount from market prices, not 40%. Still worth having though - but I would compare the final prices with those from Tesco etc first.
By the way, I have found their 3 for 2 promotion somewhat misleading due to the reasons above, and it is irritating to have to find three bottles exactly the same price to get the best benefit of the offer. Having said that, as my partner has pointed out, I have no problems consuming 3 bottles......
Is it only thresher that runs this permanent 3 for 2 offer as described? If the other brands in the group offer market pricing then we really do have a bargain here! Does anyone know if Victoria wine etc. have regular prices we can get 40 % off?
    Cheers!

I agree with Smegster, look before you leap.

If you are a tesco clubcard saver you could be earing 1,500 points on a £50 wine order, giving you £60 in deal vouchers!

therefore if you were saving for something specefic you could get your wine for free.

See Tesco code thread for details of points codes.

    cheers

I have looked for this deal on cc points on 50 quid of wine and i can't see it anywhere. Does anyone know of this? If it's true i'll spend 200 on wine and get free driving lessons for my girlfriend!

I have viewed all of the opinions with great interest as I intend to give a case of wine each to two relatives, I have both the Mail and Sunday Times offers, and they look reasonable to me, taking into account that I don't have to go to the supermarket etc, select wines that I know notihng about, really!

I would appreciate any opinions, thanks.
