Quite agree with you - someone, somewhere was funding that Family Allowance! Honestly, there are so many hypocrites on these forums! They bang on about other people being on benefits, when they themselves have taken advantage of benefits of a different kind!
Sounds like they couldn't quite afford their children either, without the help of benefits. Dish out advice regarding contraception, but they still reproduce!Ah...so some benefits are ok to have and others arent. Rather strangely, any that you have had are ok while any that you havent had are deemed unacceptable. Funny that is.0 -

The other thing is aswell they are even bigger hypocrites than you think they are. This is because before tax credits came in there was another system before it that gave you tax relief on your wages if you had kids (a similar concept) but this was factored into your wages rather than needing you to claim it. Diolch would have been in receipt of this unless he/she wasnt working (and if he/she wasnt working then he/she would be a hypocrite of epic proportions anyway)Salt0 -
If a couple earning 40k plus rely heavily on CTC and CB, then I think that perhaps they should re evaluate their finances if they cannot fund their family!0

This is a really immature attitude! I used to work as a nursery nurse before having my child, full day care costs for a child under 5 was £18-£20, this was 8+ years ago I am sure that was before tax credits were introduced, now your looking at £35 minimum full day care costs, because providers charge the top amount knowing they can get the money through tax credits.
Using your figures, that puts your child at say 8 maybe 9? Why do you need childcare for a child of that age? They go to school - so what is wrong with working between say 9 and 3?
What you haven't said is that in the past 8+ years your household income will have grown alongside the cost of childcare. So if you could have afforded to provide for the child then what makes it different now?
So should the government crack down on providers charging these amounts we wont need tax credits to help out and then maybe the money that is being given to use via tax credits can make employers pay us a decent enough wage.
So what you want is the childcare providers to reduce their charges, at the same time as having the Tax Credits removed - yes that makes sense - you won't need the TC's anymore as the cost has gone down, but to top that you want an increase in your take home pay as well!!! You don't want a lot do you?0 -

michelle1506 wrote: »I think that you are making it seem much more simple then it actually is! Well you may be fed up but I am too! I'm fed up with hearing complaints such as yours, regarding funding other peoples childcare! I am 42 years old, worked all my life, and am only NOW having a family! I have worked since I was 15, paid taxes all my life (except for two very brief spells when I was unemployed), and even had two jobs as a student.
Yet you will NEVER hear me complaining about having to fund other peoples childcare for all that time!
I think I must stop coming on this forum, as I really DON'T like some of the views which are held!
OK, I have paid tax and still am for over 47 years! My wife has never worked - it was her job to look after the family and the home. If we needed more money I did another job. If that didn't work out I changed my job. My education stopped at 15 when I went out to work full time.
I paid for my children and kept my wife out of my wage. She received family allowance, which she put in the Post Office every week for when the kids grew up! So not a damn penny of government money went into my kids other than what I provided.
Yet I am now a pensioner, still paying tax and EXPECTED to fund everybody else's sprogs!!
What gets me is that family allowance is still here - that's fine, but the poster has the audacity to ask what can she get with a family income of over £50 grand by way of Tax Credits!!!0 -

Sorry I don't understand that comment.
We had family allowance and families tofday still get it. I have no grumbles with that.
What I object to is that my tax I pay is being used in Tax Credits to fund other people's sprogs because they cant afford to pay for their own kids.
Either don't have them in the first place or get a better paid job!
But don't come knocking on my door for handouts!!!0 -

Really, really diolch, to be a good liar you've got to have a good memory........ nearly every post you make contradictes the earlier one...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Now go get the train set out and stop upsetting people......0 -
Only a complete and utter moron can not see the benefit in funding some childcare. Without that funding there are simply more people out of work, not paying tax etc etc.
errr no. make sure that you can afford to have the kids in the first place out of your own income - not out of mine!0 -
I left home at 16, worked full time and supported myself, and then went to university as a mature student when I was 20 (when I went, if you had worked for 3 years full time, then parental income was not included for fees). I did a 1 yr foundation course (Yr 0 of the degree) for which I was supported as any student is (loans) and worked full time during my degree and in the holidays in order to fully support myself.
There were loads of older people / single Mums / career change etc on my degree. Maybe you could still go if you did some research?
Well at the moment I've got one child, and one on the way, and right now I want to spend time being a mom. However once my two go to school, I'd like to do the second year of my A-Levels (have already got AS levels in Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Religious Studies and General studies) and then hopefully go on to study Particle Physics and Cosmology, but it will be a while before I have the time or the money to be able to do that0
