There is a house we would love to buy and know that the old lady who lives here has been taken into care.
Is there a process we can go to in order to make an approach to buy it.
We understand from neighbours that she has been taken into care and will not be coming home.
any help would be great

Put a note through the door asking for you to be contacted if there is any desire to sell. Nothing to lose.
What other sort of approach could there be?0 -

Forgot to say we have done that. There has been some work done on the house recently as a pipe had burst during the bad weather and builders have been in to repair damage through the insurance.
That was about 4 weeks ago and not heard anything.0 -

There's no obligation on them to contact you - they may see you as being a little presumptuous and simply toss it in the bin.
There could be a dozen things they want to do and selling it may be the last one.0 -
I would have found a note through the door really disrespectful if I were the family of the person that has gone into care.
When my nana went into residential care a couple of years ago, my mum found the whole situation far too distressing to deal with and having a note about someone wanting to buy the house straight away would have pushed her over the edge. It was such a hard and emotional decision regarding my nans care that she didn't think straight for weeks.
It took a while emotionally for us even to be able to go into the house let alone think of selling it.0 -
Absolutely priceless thread title, has to be said.0

A bald note through the door is unlikely to get much response. A proper letter which only refers to the emptiness of the property might be better received by the owners/family. keep your eye on the obituaries in the local papers - if the lady passes away you might get it cheap! Keep in touch with the neighbours for updates about her health and you might be able to nip in even quicker with an offer. Sorry if this sounds tactless and insensitive - i thought i'd make suggestions in language you might understand.0

Apologies if this has upset anyone. We know the lady well as the house is next door but one to my mother in law. We know she has no immediate family.0 -
knowing her well means you should talk to her or her family.0
