Well I tried soaking it in WD40, then white spirit and finally nail varnish remover and nothing shifts it. We were on holiday in Wales and past a white lining machine on a section of road that was controlled by temporary traffic lights. The strange thing is that I have a 6 inch white line on the front underside of the bumper on the nearside but no splash marks behind the wheels so nothing has been thrown up off the wheels. The car is only 6 months old and has only done 3,000 miles so this is a bit of a bummer.
  • paint thinners (not white spirit or meth spirit) from a stockist on a cloth. apply thinly on the area allow 2 mins for it to penetrate then wipe with a cloth, dont go all fabtastic with the thinners or youll have no laquer (topcoat) left in that patch. just keep going to it slowly it should thin off and come away.
  • I have heard of people using banana skins. Seriously! Also I saw a product demo for a car paintwork cleaner that contained banana. Might be worth a try but try on a hidden bit of the surface first just in case there's a reaction. Can't imagine it'd do any more harm than the other suggestions but you never know.

the price of petrol these days!

on another note petrol can cause adverse affects on certain paints, to cracking, burning straight through and discolouring smearing and bubbling.

    Road marking 'paint' isn't paint!

It is a thermoplastic, sometimes with glass ballotini added for reflectivity. It is melted and applied to the road surface. That's why they use a very hot compressed air and gas blowtorch to burn it off!

Fingernails or a clay bar will be the best way forward. Solvents such as petrol may work. New car paints are water based so shouldn't be affected.

Yellow lines are sometimes applied as paint, because there is less abrasion from traffic at the kerbside.

Again, OP - go and buy a clay bar and use that.

Stop trying to remove it by rubbing chemicals on it, you'll only damage the paint further.
