Yes...but there are umpteen settings to choose from. Choose the wrong ones and you fail. See my previous post, which contains details of exactly which settings to use.

I've previously succeeded in unlocking both an Orange and a TMobile one (bar the network selection, the same settings worked in both cases). However, given the unusual settings required for unlocking the Virgin Nokia 1100, I wouldn't want to speculate on what will work for the Virgin variety of Nokia 6100 as you only have 1 attempt left.
May I suggest that you have a word with Browntoa - he seems to know his onions regarding unlocking and may be able to help you.

Good ol Martin clarifies what it's all about. Can always rely on him.:)
OK - I'm a virgin poster with a Virgin Nokia 1100 - please be gentle !:
I've read Martin's post referred to above and I'm still confused about the difference between UNLOCKING and UNBLOCKING. On the back of my Virgin joining pack it says "your phone UNBLOCKING key is ...{8 digit number}". Is this not the "PUK" which is required to UNLOCK your phone to any network - I'm guessing it's not for "UNBLOCKING" your phone in the illegal sense (per Martin's post). Or is this just to unblock your phone if you have unsuccessfully tried to UNLOCK more than (5?) times and you are "blocked" from any further attempts?
Does anyone know what this code is and when / how it should be used?
Now I'm REALLY confused - I'm off to have a lie down !!!!0 -

Unblocking is when you enter the sim pin code wrongly a few times and it blocks your phone. Thats when you use your puk code to unblock the phone.
If you enter the wrong unlocking code more than 5 times then as far as i know it will need to be cable unlocked as a code will no longer unlock it.0 -
Yeah, that was sort of the conclusion I had come to. I was just a little confused after reading Martin's post (seems there's more than one definition of "UNBLOCKING" - not all of which are illegal !!)
Thanks biblejohn,

This handset is a real b****r to unlock as it doesn't follow the normal unlock rules and searching on the internet only seems to bring up other people asking the same question with no answer or, at best, a woefully incomplete answer (as if the questioner implicitly knows all about the stuff that is not mentioned).
Well, here's the definitive answer - guaranteed to work every time for a Virgin Mobile Nokia 1100 - no unmentioned parameters - and you even have a choice of unlocker:
first of all, choose your unlocker frome either Crux 2.31 or Trycktill. The former is a downloadable calculator for Windoze, the latter is an online calculator. In either of these unlockers, the settings are as follows:
Phone Type = "DCT4" on Crux, not required on Trycktill
Brand/Model = "1100 (RH-18)" on Crux or "Nokia" followed by "1100" on Trycktill
Country = United Kingdom
Network = "Virgin - SPECIAL CODE" on Crux and "Manual" on Trycktill with "23400001" entered in the text field.
"ASIC-2" on Crux, not required on Trycktill.
Box Serial = "33552 (GTCL-001)" on Crux, "33552 (Griffin Clip v3)" on Trycktill.
If the above information seems like gobbledygook to you, fear not...it will make perfect sense to you when you see the unlocker.
When the list of 7 codes is returned, use the 5th code - the one that ends in +5#.
This probably should be added to the unlocking thread on the mobiles forum.

thanks for this, worked first time. Anyone know if the SIM from virgin is registered to me or can i sell it on?0 -
Grilli, I emailed Virgin about this
Thanks for your email to Virgin Mobile regarding registering a new number.
Great news! When you purchase a phone we won't automatically register it to you. You can pass it on to anyone you wish, they can then register the number in their name.
There are three easy ways to register with us:
- Go to https://www.virginmobile.com/mobile/youraccount/RegistrationProcessing, enter your mobile phone number and fill in the online registration form. Whilst you're online and have registered your details with us, you can also register your credit/debit card details to top up your phone using your card, or set up Pay Monthly by Direct Debit (subject to a UK credit check).
Don't forget - you can earn free minutes every month if you spend £30 or more if you top up using your credit/debit card or Pay Monthly by Direct Debit.
- Fill in the form that came in your Join booklet.
- Call our team on 789 from your Virgin Mobile phone or on 0845 6000 789 from a fixed line.
Like to find out about your details and where they go? Take a look at https://www.virginmobile.com/mobile/youraccount/RegistrationProcessing and click on the link at the bottom of the page.
If you have any further questions, or if there's anything else we can help you with, just give us a call on 789 from your Virgin Mobile phone or on 0845 6000 789 from a fixed line phone and we'll be happy to help. Calls to the team on 0845 6000 789 will be charged at local rate. Calls to 789 cost just 10p, no matter how long you talk for.
Hope this helps0 -

Thanks biblejohn,

Okay...there's some confusion here.
Unlocking is as described.
However, the term "unblocking" is often used and abused to the point of confuson.
If your phone is simply blocked because the pin number has been mistyped a certain number of times, you will need a PUK code to reset the permanent block that has been placed on your phone - this is the code that was supplied with your phone. This code can also be requested by phoning up your network.
However, if the phone has been barred or blacklisted by the network because it has ben reported lost or stolen by the owner, the IMEI number is placed on a blacklist which is used pretty much Europe-wide (shared by a large number of networks) to prevent it from being given access to the network. The only way to get this restriction lifted (other than the rightful owner phoning up again to confirm they have found the phone) is to change it's identity (i.e. reprogramming the phone to transmit a different IMEI number to the network when operational) and it is this action that is illegal.
Personally, I believe that people should stop using the term "unblocking" interchangeably to prevent confusion.
