I have ordered a few of these, the first one I did online and it asked for my student ID and as the student part of the website isnt working I rang up and added another phone to my existing order. Over the phone they didnt ask for my student Id but guess it was because they allready had my details!

This handset is a real b****r to unlock as it doesn't follow the normal unlock rules and searching on the internet only seems to bring up other people asking the same question with no answer or, at best, a woefully incomplete answer (as if the questioner implicitly knows all about the stuff that is not mentioned).

Well, here's the definitive answer - guaranteed to work every time for a Virgin Mobile Nokia 1100 - no unmentioned parameters - and you even have a choice of unlocker:


first of all, choose your unlocker frome either Crux 2.31 or Trycktill. The former is a downloadable calculator for Windoze, the latter is an online calculator. In either of these unlockers, the settings are as follows:

Phone Type = "DCT4" on Crux, not required on Trycktill

Brand/Model = "1100 (RH-18)" on Crux or "Nokia" followed by "1100" on Trycktill

Country = United Kingdom

Network = "Virgin - SPECIAL CODE" on Crux and "Manual" on Trycktill with "23400001" entered in the text field.

"ASIC-2" on Crux, not required on Trycktill.

Box Serial = "33552 (GTCL-001)" on Crux, "33552 (Griffin Clip v3)" on Trycktill.

If the above information seems like gobbledygook to you, fear not...it will make perfect sense to you when you see the unlocker.

When the list of 7 codes is returned, use the 5th code - the one that ends in +5#.

This probably should be added to the unlocking thread on the mobiles forum.
