hi diolch what you say is SO true. when my daughter rang up about the crisis loan, if she asked for less than she was entitled to they would only give her what she had asked for. as she has never asked for a crisis loan how is she supposed to know how much she can claim. also she only found out the other day that carers can claim £200 "pamper money" a year. it is for the carers because the government think they should be awarded for all their hard work. my daughter has never been told about it until now when she cant claim it because at the moment she isnt getting the benefits. my next door neighbour is caring for her terminal brother and she knew nothing about it either. the rule is if you dont ask they dont tell you. regards jane

£200 pamper money for carers?I think you should tell everyone where this comes from as nobody else knows either....
You ask for what you need not how much you can get.

Was your daughters IS stopped due to the DLA not being in payment? If a child is over 10 (may be younger now) then you can't get IS unless they are disabled and you have to claim ESA/JSA and look for work.If she isn't receiving DLA then it's hard to claim not being able to work due to caring responsibilities for a disabled person.

Why has she not tried claiming JSA/ESA???

She should have been claiming CTC.For a child on DLA it's around £100 a week or for those on high rate care DLA it's £126 a week, going up this month.

While she was on Carers Allowance she was entitled to £30 or so of Income Support a week also.

Where is the childs father?Where is the maintenance?

Your daughter needs to claim what she should be claiming aswell as sorting the DLA

hi shegirl. im a bit lost on all the initials. i have no idea what the jsa and the esa are,i only know dla and income support, having never claimed anything myself. the carers "pamper money " is def there, my daughters welfare worker told her about it.its a yearly thing you as a carer can apply for. i do know someone who recieved it last year.
claiming maintanance is not an option as the father is not in this country anymore.
i would like to say thankyou to everyone who has helped me today. i found this site by complete accident and just thought i would give it a go to see if there was any info out there we didnt know about. it has been very helpful.
i will pass everything everyone has written on to my daughter in the hope that it will help her get this all sorted out. with kind regards to all of you.j

Hi, for those asking the carers "pamper money" is not a benefit but a grant a carer maybe able to claim via their own council. My local authority offer this grant via the Carer's Centre (the grant in my area is actually £100) and it is intended to help the carer have some "me time". I was lucky enough to be sent it last year without having to apply as my husband's social worker nominated me because I'd been under immense stress. I was able to use the money as I wished (spent it on artists materials) but did have to fill in a form to say what I had done with it.

This year they have changed the rules and you have to state what you want to do with it beforehand and then produce receipts afterwards.

Eh? I don't know anything about pamper money and I have been a carer for several years!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

i think she has never claimed job seekers allowance because she cannot seek a job. i think that as she got the dla and the carers she was getting more than the job seekers allowance. when she had these stopped she started to get the income support. that was in feb.that was taken away from her about 3 weeks ago when they said they had paid it to her by mistake and she is back to just the £20 family allowance. she rents a housing association house which the council were paying. she was advised by the benefits agency to go to the doctors and get a sick note then take it to the council so that they were aware of why her rent hadnt been paid for two months. she has taken this into the council and they have said they will continue to pay her rent council tax etc as the doctor backdated the sicknote to february. she sent her sicknote in a few days ago and was told by the benefits agency that it only usually takes a few weeks to sort it out. im not quite sure about the child tax credit. if she was getting it she isnt now. i know everyone reading these messages find it hard to believe but all she is getting is £20. no other benefits, nothing else.

    no other benefits, nothing else

well thats not strictly true - she is in receipt of Housing benefit and council tax benefit - so she has a roof over her head
    from what I can gather;
    • your daughter has completed DLA renewal forms for your grand-daughter
    • the DLA has now been stopped - your daughter MUST have been notified about the cessation of her daughters DLA - the DWP always notify a claimant of their decision
    • as DLA is no longer payable your daughter becomes ineligible for Carers allowance
    • your daughter is now only claiming £20 per week child benefit.
The reason I suggested Jobseekers allowance (JSA) is because IF your daughter has nothing to live on then she will HAVE to get a job and your granddaughter will have to go into hospital or have social services carers look after her needs

I appreciate that your daughter may WANT to care for her daughter, but the fact is, she needs money to live and she will have to either claim JSA and seek work or claim Employment Support Allowance (ESA) in order to receive some money so she will have to fac facts that someone else may have to do the caring for your grand-daughter.

Your daughter should make a claim for Child Tax Credits to gain some extra funds from HMRC - but the fact remains that she is going to have to either get a job or claim Job seekers

also - I notice a couple of times that you say all your daughter had to live on was the DLA and carers allowance- I will risk the wrath of people here to point out that the DLA was for your GRAND-DAUGHTER's needs - NOT money for your daughter to live off.

I don't know much about JSA - but I would think that if your daughter claims, it may open the door for her to claim other funds such as income support - but I'm not 100% sure of this aspect of the situation
  • I may be wrong - it has been a few years since I last received a DLA award for my son, as his last award was indefinite - but I think the letter that comes with the award mentions that you may be entitled to other benefits.

Apologies if I am wrong - hopefully somebody with more up-to-date knowledge can clarify.

She will be entitled to JSA of £65 a week, plus CB £20 and Child tax credit of £54. Plus housing and council tax benifit and health costs.

I believe they do but ds last had his when he was 8/9 I think and it doesn't need redoing until he's 16 so my memory could be wrong too lol

I also would like to point out how much I agree with the poster who said that DLA is for the childs needs not to live off (major bug bear of mine):T
