These people are also on a money saving site as they not only have to pay for their own families, but they also pay high taxes to support those who don't.0 -
I was under the impression that the benefits board was about helping people to legitimately claim their maximum entitlement not for debating whether they "should" be entitled or not.:):):)
There is nothing wrong with reminding people where their benefits come from. The benefits budget is far from infinite, and people should be aware of this when they claim.Gone ... or have I?0 -

There is nothing wrong with reminding people of the rules of the forum. They're repeated in several places, are entirely clear, and people should be aware of this when they post.0 -

Yes, yes, we know - similar semantics are your raison d'etre. We wade through them most days. <insert random smiley here>

Pipscot did not break the rules. She stated facts, s/he did not give a judgement. <insert downmarket smiley thing here>0 -

My wife and I have worked and paid taxes for almost 20 years each.
If you feel aggrieved because we are legitimately claiming tax credits to which we are entitled perhaps you should write a letter to the government voicing your concerns.
Why not ask them to scrap child benefit, unemployment benefit, and the other multitude of benefits which various governments have deemed the people to be entitled to.
I hope you never find yourself in the position where you need to avail of all the help available.0 -

Whether you agree or not is besides the point, surely? Unless you want to start a separate thread in Discussion Time?
This bit particularly - um, well, yes. Or they'd be back to 29 hours 40 minutes! What a silly thing to say.
I am entitled to an opinion, thats what forums are for. As for the comment of the declaring survey income a silly thing to say, it was not at all. Some people (not particularly the OP) would forget to declare the actual earnings from this little side line, regardless of whether they then stated they were working the 30 hours.
Anyway, it looks like the OP & his wife have managed to sort it out now so that she is working 30 hours, which of course is a good thing if they as a family can now get the extra money without having to wrongfully 'round up' hours worked.
I say wrongfully because someone has already posted the rules on this not being allowed, in fact you must round down.0 -

There is a vast difference between those who can't work through no fault of their own and those that who don't want to work. I am happy for my taxes to support the former, but not the latter. The welfare state was created as a safety net and not a lifestyle choice.
As for "voicing your concerns", I used my vote to do that: I'm in a marginal:)
You do realise that benefits are subject to change, don't you? With that in mind, is relying on welfare payments to feed and house your family really a good idea? Wages will go up much faster than welfare payments and many welfare payments will be cut or removed. The other good thing about paying your own way is you don't have to say "how high" when the government says "jump".RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

no one on here resents people getting their entitlement.
but when people are obviously doing their utmost to manipulate the system to their own benefit..........yes it does rankle!
all i can say is, wait until you are a childless couple, struggling to make ends meet ( or a single person for that matter)and you see people trying their best to increase their income for the smallest effort.............
i dont blame the claimants, i blame the system. but the 'entitled' people are fighting tooth and nail to secure their entitlement, whilst the 'unentitled' are suffering much more!0
