Problems with Neighbours!

Some people are so territorial!
I can't see the problem (unless there is a distinct boundary line and the fence sits beyond it...... or the paint was running on to his side!)0 -
if it's your side of fence they can do nothing about it, who owns the fence, cos if that bad & there responsible they have to repace it, our fence is neighbours responsibility & if i want to paint it etc at my side i do what i want

Although not a fence owner myself, I'd be annoyed if someone painted my fence without asking. If I were your sister I'd go to the neighbour with a bottle of wine and say you are sorry and you just didn't think about who's fence it was. When you first own a house, perhaps after living at home for years and never giving a thought to these things, it's easy to make mistakes like your sister did. 'Fess up and move on.Stercus accidit0

The stories my sister has told me about "this neighbour" just makes me realise how much she misses country-living!
Its hard to beat having a bit of privacy rather than living next to a Tony Soprano wannabe0 -
Sorry if this has been covered before but the title deeds to the house should state which fence you are "Responsible" for (well it did the last time I looked on ours) if you are responsible for said fence, you can go ahead and paint it if you like and if the neighbour doesn't like it he can take his fence down and move it back from the boundary so you're sis can put up her own fence and have the pleasure of having him looking at the ugly posts on his side!!0

Have you checked your Deeds to see if it is your neighbour's fence?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

I must add that if this is facing onto your sisters property she does not require the neighbours permission to paint this is the most stupid thing I have ever heard as almost every property in the world has a dividing fence/wall or something else and if it faces your side of the property then you can do what you like to it I know this as we had a dispute some years ago with an idiot next door who complained about a simular thing and then got a solicitors letter through there and upon looking into it a bit more they were forced to back down and advised of the actual laws cannot remember exact ones but it is just common sense as well, who in there right mind will put a fence/wall up and say its all mine you next door cannot touch it.
Tell him to do one and get a life !0 -
