She could have been a bit more polite. It is her neighbour's property, she has no right to tamper with it. Talk about entitlement!

As for tattoos, chirping "sorry if that offends" doesn't make offensive (and bigoted) remarks less offensive.

Such judgemental, snitty attitudes from people who don't have the wit to know basic planning laws.

    Do i detect a tattoo?!

As for painted fences - ugh. Eyesore. Sorry if that offends anyone, but I don't like them.

Apart from not being painted, there is no mention of this fence being damaged or sub standard. Your neighbor has spent money on a fence, why do you think you have the right to paint it.
On a thread titled, Problems with Neighbours!, you should consider who is causing the problem.

It could not be described as anything more than sub-standard! To be honest he could not have spent much on it- its a bit of a hack job.

My little sister bought her first house about a year ago.
Anyhow her backgarden area is seperated from her neighbours by a wooden panel fence.
The previous owners hadn't really bothered much with painting but my sister trying to tidy the place up a bit started painting her side of the fence only to be told off by her tattooed neighbour "hey love what do you think your doing, this is my fence, you put up your own fence if you want to paint it"
I think i can see why the previous owners hadn't bothered with the hassle of trying to paint their side.
My sister told them she was only painting her side and it was protecting the wood anyhow.
What are peoples opinions on this?

If she does put up her own fence can she put up a fence that is just that little bit higher than the one her awkward neighbour seems to dote on?

It's always nice in cases like this when the fence owner has inadvertantly put up the fence the wrong way round - ie the neightbour gets the posts and the poor side of the fence rather than the smart looking overlapped panel side....

if that was the case it could also suggest the neighbour trying to claim a fence that isnt theirs, and taking advantage of someone who has moved in recently and not known if they fence is theirs or not.

He is being a bit of a pain in the neck, but is within his rights as it is his fence. No need of make a neighbours from hell issue out of it. We cannot choose our neighbours but we can choose to not make enemnies of them.

Exactly, encouraging the OP's sister to do things just to annoy the neighbour more is just ridiculous. She has to continue living there and also has to disclose any neighbour disputes when she wants to sell.

You'll find a lot of garden fences are facing the wrong way but who is going to be nasty enough to force neighbours to reposition a whole fence? All my neighbours have their fences turned the wrong way towards me, I wouldn't dream of making an issue out of it or painting the back of their fences. It's simple things like that have let me get along great with every neighbour I've ever had.

Why doesn't she approach him, apologise and let him know she didn't mean to offend him, however she wanted to cheer the garden up a bit.

Personally i would say there is more likelihood of her battering him across the head with a spade!

maybe its trees and hedges where there is no restrictions since they arent manmade.

    thanks big al!

anyone else reading that realising that they know many many people who have a huge fence at the front garden that either they got planning permission for or have put up illegally?

Where I live they are really strange about fences. They are only allowed to be 3ft tall, and if you disobey it someone reports you within 24hrs. Think all the pensioners are short of things to complain about :rotfl:

That says more about your sister than the big bad tattooed neighbour, personally I'd rather live beside him by the sounds of it.
