My Credit File Clean Up ?

Since cleaning up our credit files back in July, I have had a few responses from creditors acknowledging my letters.

Then strangely enough, beginning of August, Mr AP got his credit file from Equifax thru the post, even though we hadn't requested it or paid for a copy!!!!

Having had a look at it, everything has been marked as settled now apart from our joint bank overdraft (Abbey) which is still showing as defaulted. However we had a reply to our clean up letter from them in July to say they had passed it on to their collections team for updating, so i guess thats being sorted.

The only other query I have at the moment is, one of Mr AP's credit cards is showing as Settled but with a default date of Jan 31 2010. As our BR was Aug 2009, should I write back to them requesting the default date is changed or should I write to Equifax? Is this something they could get sorted?

I will also add, I am going to send off for updated copies of our credit files in the near future to make sure they are cleaned up (giving Abbey time to update). I never got callcredits but I think I will this time.

If you dispute it through Equifax then they must pass on that dispute to the creditor and give you any response.

A separate letter to the creditor is usually suggested as that just tells them to update all three agencies in one go.

Up to you. Do one, or the other, or both.

Hi Angie, yes you should write back to them and tell them to correct their info, otherwise that default will stay on the file for 6 years from the default date.

    Thanks all :T:T:T

I will send another letter off as you all advise and then in time request our cf's again.

Just another thing, Mr AP has been getting emails to apply for a credit card from 'Granite, the card for bad credit' apr 34.9%.

Anyone heard of it? Just wondering if it would be worth applying for purely to re-build the cf?

Edit : just seen its part of Vanquis
