    You'll struggle with attendance with Crohns...until its sorted or diagnosed. My brother has it :-(
    How come you are going through horrible RA's for jobs? Is it whilst you find a perm job?

    I think if people don't have debilitating IBS, then they don't understand what it's like. I have severe IBS, and I can't deal with stress and anxiety like ordinary people. Nice symptoms are stomach cramps brought on by anxiety as well as either constipation or diahorrea and vomiting. The worst I have experienced had me bedridden, with what doctors though was food poisoning. Prolonged exposure to that kind of stress would leave me back on anti-depressants.

    I do understand 'IBS' as it happens. But it does not change my comments made earlier. I could list ten ailments my family have or I have, bottom line is - an employer thought you were unreliable.

I didn't do it to leave them in the lerch!!!

    I emailed my consultant at Reed last night saying that I still wish to be considered for other roles at the company where I worked and she emailed me back saying that Reed wouldnt consider putting me forward for any other positions at the company as they will ask my manager for an update and she wouldn't recommend me to any other managers. Bit harsh, no?

    Really would appreciate ANY advice anyone has! If any temps that are temping through Reed are reading this, can you please dig out your contract for me as I haven't got mine so I can't see if there's anything on there about giving notice!

    I used to get severe IBS, it started very suddenly after a dodgy kebab and for a very long time afterwards, to put it nicely, I could never be far from a loo. Sometimes I had to leap up from the dinner table VERY suddenly to go there.

    Also it was very painful to the point of losing sleep because no position was comfortable enough to relax.

    Over the years it has paled to insignificance. For what it's worth my best cure ever was a serving of rolled oats every morning whenever it flared. Peppermint oil capsules from the doctor served only to create mint scented visits to the loo, but neat peppermint oil a bit on the tongue whenever it struck was very effective and I use that to this day whenever indigestion strikes.

    Note any specific foods that trigger it and don't eat them.

    They probably asked you back because they were short staffed, knew you had worked there before so knew the system, thought it might be a quick way to get a worker without training and didnt expect you to keep havign sick days.

    No one is saying its your fault for being poorly - you misunderstand the point. From an employers POV it doesnt look good if you leave them in the lurch AND have sick days. BOTH will contribute to you getting a reputation REGARDLESS your condition and to be honest, they would be WORSE off if they employed you direct because then they would have to pay you sick pay (which you wont get with an agency)

    I think what you wanted from this thread was for everyone to agree the recruitment agency was in the wrong - well sorry, but i dont they are. I think you should of handled the situation a lot better and hopefully will learn from this. Everyone has issues in life, whether it be IBS or something else - It's how you handle yourself which makes things different.

    I spent 3 years working as a temp for various agencies (I get bored easily and loved the variety of moving about every week or every month or so). You are conscious that you are working for the agency and are in the role as their representative, walking out is not a good idea because it damages the reputation of the agency.

    Instead of relying on email to contact your consultant pick up the phone and talk to her - emails can be missed because consultants get hundreds every day, make a point of speaking to your consultant each week that way you build a rapport with her (or him) and when you prove yourself to be reliable then they are more likely to find you work. I remember I used to phone up on first thing on a Monday morning to see if there was any work - that way I was immediately at the forefront of my consultant's mind when she had a job come in.

    Remember if you walk out without notice then don't expect to be paid either, I only ever walked out of two jobs in the whole time I was temping although I did give notice with one because I wanted to explain exactly why I was leaving, the other was left because of the appalling working conditions - actually I never worked for that particular agency again which for me was no real loss because I worked for 5 others at the same time.

    I've signed with Reed for temp work before. Every agency has a requirement for a weeks notice written into their terms and conditions when you sign up with them and sign the papers allowing them to work for temp work for you.

    Agencies are fickle and don't coddle people about health issues like normal employers might. Unfortunately I know this and have burned bridges with agencies before when I have had no choice due to illness.

    Its a pain but you just need to move on and find another agency. I would prefer the email you got to the non-reply I get when I try to put myself forward for jobs with agencies who consider me "unreliable due to past illness". At least you know your position rather than wasting time sending applications to them and be in the dark as to whether they will consider you for roles or not.
