Left a Temp job with Reed - No Notice?

    Haha how rediculous. I have a right to get defensive, it's called sticking up for myself. Sorry, I'll go and have doormat tattooed on my foorhead this afternoon :) And nothing is causing me problems as I am going to see another recruitment agency this afternoon who has a job lined up for me.

    This is illegal.

    They can take you to court for loss of wages, but with hold wages? No.

    Luckily my boss still authorised my timesheet so I haven't lost anything & Reed are even paying me my remaining holiday hours that I had accumulater :)

    I spent the first 5 years of my working life temping and I did very well, mostly due to people like you who were completely unreliable and had a major attitude problem to boot.

    It doesn't matter whether it's a temping agency, YOU have to be professional and if you're not professional then you'll get the $h!tty jobs at the lowest rates and you'll be last the queue to be offered them. If you act professionally you'll start to get the pick of the jobs at the best rates and end up in high demand. When I was doing it, I ended up only temping for Director/CEO level and was always in demand. Why? Because the agency knew I wouldn't let them down and the company knew I wouldn't have that 'it's only a temp job so screw it' attitude.

    Sorry...but the way you're coming across here I certainly wouldn't employ you.

    I think SJ_Jones makes a fair point, to be honest. Sticking up for yourself is where you rightfully stand up to people who are hounding you/being nasty for its own sake; whereas being defensive is when you stick to your point on view in light of everyone else offering a different viewpoint. Chances are if you think one thing and 10+ other people think something else, you should at least re-visit the topic to try and see it from the other point of view.

    I know full well how hard it can be to accept criticism, probably the one thing I find hardest about professional work :o

    Fair enough, but all that's being suggested is that you need to prove yourself as a bit more consistent/reliable, as you can't just dump an agency every time you feel like leaving a job. It's very hard to build up a good CV with strong references if your definition of 'nothing causing problems' is burning your bridges when you come across a job you don't enjoy.

    No judgement, not 'telling you off', but if you're old enough to work, you're old enough for people to give you constructive criticism. Please don't assume people here are ganging up on you - if they didn't care, they'd just tut and move on to the next thread. The advice you're getting is well meant ;)

    But no one is being nasty so there is no need to get defensive. we're simply trying to explain to you the way things have looked from the Recruitment Agency and the employer. It's fine if you dont agree with the things we are saying - each to their own etc.

    Most of us here offering replies have been in or have seen similar situations to yours. I think you maybe see things slightly warped - Such as the "slating behind your back" etc, and i wonder why that is? It comes across that you think the worlds against you and it isnt. I agree about not seeming to take the constructive critism - Use this as a learning curve, dont take it personally but DO try and see it from another angle. People will always have an opinion and you wont always agree with it. If you gain high employment, there is always critisism because they want the best from you - and why shouldnt they? it's the that pay your wages at the end of the day

    Reed, by law, MUST pay you for hours worked and the whole "Reed are even paying me my holiday" - damn right they should. Reed take money FROM your wages for you to accure the holidays so these are rightfully yours. Dont let them give you any rubbish
