Do I have any grounds for returning this furniture?
And just to add to what Derrick has said...

If you read their returns page, you will see that they accept DSR cancellations by phone too.
Also worth noting that they will collect the stuff free.

Also, if you still have the original packaging (not sure whether they enforce this), you have up to 28 days to phone them if you change your mind.

DSR's still the way to go as they have "tried out the goods", the 28 day return policy states," Products must be unused in their original packaging and accompanied by your proof of purchase**. This does not affect your statutory rights."

Thank you both very much for your helpful and reassuring advice. Can I ask what DSR means?

Btw, although I had to remove a little packaging in order to fit the backs of the sofa to the seat, I have retained the packaging and the labels remain attached. Following my husband's accident first thing this morning we have not used this furniture preferring to play safe.

I didn't make myself quite clear on my OP. I visited my local Homebase to sign the paperwork for this furniture, but at no time was able to access a Homebase which had this furniture on display. I therefore chose it from a catalogue and the colour of leather from swatches sent to me by post. Having discovered what DSR means I think, my having been to the store, that it doesn't apply in my case.

A postscript: I rang the Homebase I ordered the furniture from and the saleswoman who originally sold it to me was extremely helpful. Collection has been arranged for 12th Feb and a refund will follow immediately.
Thank you both once again, your advice was very reassuring at a time when I was feeling very anxious - and I've learned something about consumer rights too! :O)

Yes, you can ask; whether they will or not is another matter.

Was it direct from Amazon or from a marketplace seller?

The law has not been broken - this was offered on the internet at the price you then agreed to buy it for; the fact that it has turned up with another price on it is immaterial.

However IF it was direct from Amazon they may agree to refund you out of goodwill. If it was from a market place seller chances are they bought the item at £12 and realised they could make a bit more on it and offered it for sale at the price you paid. You agreed to pay that price.

    THIS
is the excellent post by Squeaky which explains the law as it pertains to your query (blue text indicates a link)

Any advise- bought oven Hotpoint hae60 from Argos. Ordered online received 28.1.2013. Double oven but top oven fills house with thick black smoke whenever used. Have cleaned even though brand new. Called argos initially advised would get new oven now they are saying that I only had 21 days to get replacement oven and now will just have to get repair. Is this correct?
