Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 19th April. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Hubby's been dropped at the station with his packup, fish fed, breakfast eaten & DW on, the washing machine has sprung a leak, so I'm washing by hand for a few days.
Hubby's been tasked with trying to stop BIL's ex getting hold of his house, bloody difficulty as they aren't divorced as she refuses to reply to paperwork & BIL's never got round to pushing it through.
Hubby is visiting BIL on Wednesday as visiting hours are limited & lots of people are there today & tomorrow, BIL will be it the HDU for a few days yet, he is conscious some of the time but is on enough pain killers to slay an elephant. His condition seems to be fairly stable.
I went with a friend to do another sort out at her Mum's flat, she'd saved all the seeds from the Daily Mail for us, leeks, lettuce, radish, carrots, beetroot & tomato. We found a clothes airer so I brought it home with me, I had one of the really large Lidl ones, but gave it to DD1 as she doesn't have a tumble dryer.
Plans for today include doing my roots, watering the garden, going to the Dr's for a smear test (sorry, TMI) then to go to the Registry Office to pay for the wedding, I've paid at our local one to register, but now need to pay at the one in town where we are getting married as it is nearer to us. When I get home I need to order the wedding rings, no idea what's for tea tonight, I best go & scrummage in the freezer.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester & all to follow.
Hope today's doc's visit goes ok & OH doesn't get too stressed with exsil!
Been up since 5 - picked up OH & DS from work, it is a really lovely time of the morning but I must admit would rather have been in bed. OH & DS now have gone to bed and I will have a couple of hours of peace and quiet before DD gets up. She spent the weekend with a friend and think she needs to recover from the late nights.
Its going to be very warm here today :j will get some washing on and work hard in the office so can get out in the garden later. Still need to do my menu plan and try and book an online shop. Hopefully my quidco money has gone in the account so can pay for it. Think will factor in some barbecues over the Easter weekend.
Thats it for me, the kettle has boiled - have a great day.x0 -

morning HH and Essex-girl and all who follow,
nice day here again, was rudely awakened by DH alarm which is set an hour earlier than it really needs to be... ggrrrrrr. he's been doing that for years, and with earplugs I can sometimes just doze through it, but just couldn't today. I should just get up, rather than waste the hour... get my flying done for the day!! maybe tomorrow!!
WM on, DW on, and just about to jump in the shower, and then off to work. 3 more days then 11 days off..... feel like I am limping towards Thursday now. Dinner tonight is.....steak and chips at our local, DD is sleeping over at a friends, so we can have a little treat.
had my first foray into the world of selling on ebay, sold some trainers and a leather jacket and made £30, and we did a carboot at the weekend and I made another £60, so thats this weekends camping trip paid for. DH also had a good ebay week, but hopefully his will be going back towards paying off some more of his debts.
Anyway, have a lovely day all x0 -
Morning all!
Woke up super early, not sure why other than I fell asleep super early lol! Found dd3 asleep on the landing - her and dd2 had a row so she vacated their room, she's now lying next to me and has nodded off again!
Yesterday was a lovely day, went to the garden centre with the girls, and got a raised veg bed and some wee plants for it, seeds will fill up the rest! Ran out of time to do anything with it, so putting it in the right spot and filling it with earth and then planting will be jobs for today. Then I got a call to say my food processor was ready for collection, so picked it up after work and had a browse of the recipes and the girls unpacked all the bits and bobs, today I shall be clearing a space for it to live in the kitchen and then hopefully making some chutney as we've run out!
OS stuff today other than the above gardening and cooking, will involve the usual rounds of dw, wm, hoovering, bm and yoghurt, S&S the kitchen and a dejunking of paperwork in my bedroom! Had a go at the flyladies stuff yesterday and was quite pleased that I managed to do most of it bar the wiping down of paintwork! Little and often must be working, as last time I gave it a go it took forever to do a couple of level one jobs lol!
Have told girls I will take them to Street today, to visit Clarks Village (discount outlet place), as dd3 needs a new swimsuit for school, dd1 wants to look at prom dresses, and I want to drool in the Le Creuset shop! dd2 is along for the ride and hoping for a splurge in La Senza - though as she has no money I think that I may be the one paying out, still I can hardly refuse to buy her undies! ds is off to see a mate today, think they are sorting out something to do with bands and festivals - his mate promotes a couple of bands, so should keep him out of mischief!
Hester - glad to see BIL is still on the mend, and perhaps suggesting to his ex that if she moves into his house it'll be super as she'll be able to nurse him would help dissaude her! Enjoy choosing your rings xx

Morning all!
Glad to hear your Bil is making progress HH, even if it will be a long road.
Beautiful morning here. Must get myself moving soon. Really have to get up to the allotment later. I just have no heart for it this year, and am only keeping it because dh wouldn't let me give it up once we had paid the rent for the year.
It's made me less enthusiastic about my own garden even, which is ridiculous. I think it's because I know there is so much to do. The whole plot needs weede, and I don't know where to start.
Ah well, just need to motivate myself.
I'm cross with myself about my grocery fund this month too. I had been doing a monthly meal plan, and finding that I had hardly any money left by the last couple of weeks.
This month, I did a weekly meal plan and shop, and was quite pleased to have more money left over by the end of the 'big shop'. Now, yet again, through not being organised enough, I have found myself with barely more than a tenner to last the rest of the month.
So, today I will have to go through the freezer and cupboards and figure out meals to last us. I have fish in the freezer, but my problem is that I have to make dinners for dh to take to work that he can heat up, and I haven't figured out how to do that with fish yet, ie, to make something that will be edible after being reheated.
On a happy note, getting seed obsessed......... I sewed lots of extra tomato seeds and courgette seeds, and have lots of seedlings coming up. I want to give some to friends and sell some at the car boot. Courgette seeds are brilliant..... it's like the day of the triffids when they start to break through the soil.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Morning All
Hope things improve all round HH, hugs to you.
Up bright and early today, washing out, DW emptied. DD still asleep, she has a couple of days off although she has to collect her new specs today (she lost hers in Oz!).
Did too much yesterday, cycled to work then stopped at the pool for 50 lengths. DD met me with the cycle carrier for the car but I decided I would just ride home anyway. Really feeling it today, along with having to go back to work after the holiday! Going to take the car today and cycle again tomorrow, the old legs need a rest!
Fajitas for tea, I actually went shopping last night, the fridge was a big expanse of white! Will clean the hens house later when I get in, coffee at a friends after school and then hopefully tap class will be on tonight.
Hugs to all in want or need, hope you are all well and have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning!
Hope BIL continues to improve Hester. x
Happy Birthday Sunnyday! x
Work today again, its lovely outside and I have a washing on the line. Chicken pie for dinner tonight for then nmenfolk, not sure about me, some sort of salad and no apple crumble! Got some nice news last night, an old friend with whom I am terrible at keeping in regular touch, is home visiting for a few weeks; her sister is expecting a baby and not keeping too well, and her younger brother is getting married, so we are going to meet up. She has long been one of my favourite people, and I was thinking about her yesterday about an hour before I got her message
More cleaning and purging after work, I need to get to the dump and the charity shop, our council has now started charging for bulk items, but the civic amenity place in en route to work, so I have no excuse really.
Hope you all have a lovely day, and stay safe.

BB- I don't have a greenhouse, but I would love one.
Mini fish pies? Could I make with pastry? He doesn't really like mash, so I never make him shepherds pie etc.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Sunnyday - happy birthday, hope you have a fab day xx
NPM - get it checked mrs! And cheese sauce freezes fine, I freeze it for dd3 as she isn't so keen on tom based sauces, so it's easy to pull a portion out of the freezer when I'm making something else for the others! But as RR says, mac cheese freezes okay too, just make sure the pasta is al dente when you freeze it.
Candy - those burgers sound nice, going to give them a go, need to cook up some lentils to make pate as well, so double meal! And I'm sure your lawn looks lovely after it's drunken trim!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000
