How do I settle?

Ive had my house on the market twice before without any success of selling.
Basically we just cant find anywhere to move to within budget to make it worth while.
Ive seen some houses in a less desirable areas but doubt it would work practically with schools etc.
I know deep down that I probably wont be able to move but crave a bigger home, and dont know how on earth I will settle! Every couple of months I really get the urge to put house on market but its wasting my time
Any advice? Or anyone been in a similar situation?

If moving is your objective. Save your money and pay down your mortgage.0

Hi avenida

I can sympathize with your situation. However, we moved just over three years ago to an area we didn't know anything about, 150 miles away from family and despite it being our dream home, the location is less than perfect, we've made virtually no friends (well OH has made a few, but I don't know a soul
) and we hate it here. Within a month of moving in, I wanted to put the house back up for sale and a few months later we did. Like yourself though, we couldn't find anywhere suitable, so withdrew it from sale despite a fair amount of interest.
Three years on we've spent around £40k on essential renovations and we are now desperate to get closer to family as my parents are ill and need me closer. Now though, although we accepted an offer within two weeks of being on the market we've had to take a huge hit - selling at £30k less than we paid
Also, as we became mortgage-free when we moved here, we want to try to stay that way and have found that despite falls in property prices, we can't afford to get a really decent house in the area we came from (south coast) so are having to look further afield (south west) where houses are relatively cheap by comparison. In addition, the lack of decent housing stock coming onto the market makes finding the perfect house even harder.
Our dilemma is we have the perfect house, but not the perfect location so I'm still tempted to let our buyers down and just stay put............
If you are in an area where you have family and friends I would think twice about moving unless you really have to - I deeply regret moving here without giving it more thought and am now equally scared of moving again in case it's 'out of the frying pan and into the fire'!
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. xxxMortgage-free for fourteen years!

Thats sounds really tough, my problem is I'm scared that i will like yourself move away from family and friends and absolutely hate it too, and its hard enuf to sell these days that if we did sell and move what are the chances of being lucky to sell again!
Me and my Mum have a very close bond and moving further away from her would be tough, its one of those no win situations unfortunately.
Thanks for the input and I hope things work out for you 2 xx0 -
I think you've talked before about extending the house? If it is so difficult to move, and you cant find anything in your budget anyway, would that still be an option?0

We sold a stunning house in a stunning location, we could never afford to move back there because it was "too small" I wish we'd just bought less crap to fill it with and stayed we'd be living a very different life now if we'd made that house work.0

We had quotes from builders but is working out more than we can afford unfortunately, was hoping that the builders would do a "deal" with us in these current hard times but not happening!0 -

Thats what my husband says we just have too much stuff! My reason for moving would be for a bigger bedrooms, bigger living room and another loo in the house (we currently have one) and a bonus would be a playroom for the kids
So looking back angela would you not have moved? Do you have to do without holidays etc as you have a bigger mortgage?0 -

Is there anyway you could compromise, maybe by building a downstairs loo and playroom, but not doing a two-storey extension? What is the one thing that most frustrates you about the house as it is?0 -

It just feels very small inside, our bathroom upstairs is tiny and 4 of us getting ready in the morning is hard work! The extension would be to the side of the property and I kinda felt that a one storey extension wouldnt look right.
The exterior of our house isnt the prettiest either its a 1970 built and the brick at the side is starting to crumble and the whole house needs repointing, the list goes on!0 -
why is your house not selling? If youve put it on twice and had no offers, then perhaps the issue is with the asking price.
Every property is sellable, provided you are realistic about how much its worth0
