Hiya LookingAhead,
Great thread and sounds so like me in that I go from one extreme to the other, debt bashing par excellence one month to "f*ck it let's go out for 1 (several!) meal(s)", the next! If I have a dicky heart as now seems the case it seems daft to pay it off dbl quick and have no fun.
How about the card-in-plastic-bag-submerged-in tupperware-dish-of-water-in-freezer trick? Still available for dire emergencies but too much of a pain for anything less.
I really enjoy your posts so thanks.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -

One of the ODs is with A&L now as they offer free OD and I've been paying the £500 into it as required under the T&Cs each month but have been using some of it too as I need it. Again, they haven't asked for it to be paid immediately.
I really wouldn't want you to get in trouble because of me. Just sharing what worked for the cow  :rotfl:LookingAhead wrote:I will be having a little thinky about the VISA card. Hi Verbatim - I'm glad you enjoy my posts...:o
You'll have to see if this regularly polarised DFW can find happy middle ground and see if it helps!
CC in the freezer....not a bad idea at all. Hmmmmm
Just had a vision of me in John Lewis with a dress in one hand and a block of ice in the other, banging it on the counter and breathing over it, shouting "Melt you b*gger, MELT!"Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

I was sitting here looking at my Excel spreadsheet and dreaming of a Debt Free Day. It became clear to me that the card had to go.
So I ran to the kitchen (literally!) and got a nice big pair of scissors......and cut the bloomin' thing up.
I can't remember who it was on the DFW forum recently who posted a thread saying how satisfied they felt when the scissors went through the chip.....but oh how I empathise.
So ladies & gentleman, as of now, my purse contains ONLY a switch card and a shed load of reward cards.
I feel a bit weird....but....happy as well.
Like I said when I started this 'diary' I have to try a new way to get debt free. The old 'tried & tested' methods weren't working. And one of the old ways was to have one card 'for emergencies'.
Well I told my BF what I was doing and said I was a bit worried in case anything happens, emergency wise, but followed up with "But I will have to cross that bridge if & when I come to it."
He is pleased I have given it the snip....though he did go a little _pale_ at my scissor wielding...Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

Oooh, good stuff LA! Credit cards are deceptive aren't they... switch is the way to go... and cutting them up is fab
I like the idea of finding a 'new way' when the old one isn't working... I could apply that to all sorts of things at the moment so thank you :think:Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs.
