Baby teething at 13 weeks!!! Help

My son was teething at 13 weeks, although the teeth did not actually cut the tops (bottoms?) of the gums until he was 5 months you could see the sides of them! Unfortunatley it meant most of his first 6 months were marred with teething episodes with nothing to show for it all.
I use Ashton & Parsons powders during the day/when it isn't really bad & save the Calpol for night time/when he's seriously distressed. I find it's easiest to administor the calpol either in a ounce of milk in a bottle/cup (whatever your baby is used to if you aren't BF) or else use the pre-measured sachets as these have a funnel shape to them (it doesn't look like it from the outside but it's the way they are sealed) so it's easier to aim into his mouth. They are more expensive than the bottles but much more chance of it ending up in his mouth!;)
Good luck;)
PS : does anyone else refer to the A & P powders as "cocaine" or is it just me?"Darling, he's grisley & dribbling alot, what shall I do?"......."Give him a shot of cocaine, it's in the changing bag!":o:p:o:o

lol I breastfed both of mine right up until they started teething (8 months & 6 months). I got bitten twice....ouch!....never again
You can work through it so I've heard though. I just wasn't that brave!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Im another Ashton and Parsons fan.
Used them with both of mine. A friend recommended them to me when i had my first baby. What a Godsend they turned out to be.
They get recommended on here quite often!
Take no notice of your HV, i mentioned to mine, my ds was a very sicky baby. She just dismissed it as one of those things  . Not happy with her response i went to the Dr, who diagnosed REFLUX and a milk intollorance!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........................
Good luck with the teething, the other thing i did for mine was let them suck on a lolly!

not sure which bonjela you looked at but they do a regular strength and a teething gel, also calpol make one called calgel, plus i've heard that nelsons teetha is good it's a homeopathic treatment.
my babe is 5 weeks and i can see 2 of her teeth under her gums, so i guess i'm gonna be in your shoes soon!!:eek:0 -
Anbesol liquid is very good:

It sinks in to the gums rather than slides off like Bongela.
Make sure you don't ask for Anusol though
My babster cut his first two teeth at 15 weeks. I breastfed until he was 8 months, with only a couple of biting incidents.0 -
calgel is far better than the bonjela stuff. ashtons and parsons never made any difference to my dd though i know many who swear by it. i guess its trial and error to find what suits your family. calgel is fab stuff though.
Also on breastfeeding and biting all babies get an urge to bight down at some stage (according to my hv) but you can feed through it, if you latch them off with your finger the moment they do it with a stern no they soon realise biting equals no milk and learn not to do it. i had about a week of biting with my dd at about 7 months and she learned and is still feeding now at 21 months.

You must have the same HV as I had, rang to ask what she recommended for teething when DS was 8 weeks old, was told not to be so stupid he's too young to teethe. I told her to come and have a look as he had his two bottom teeth through and perhaps she might want to change the textbook she relied on. My cousins were born with teeth so early teething runs in the family. We used Ashton & Parsons and Calgel, not sure if helped as DS never seemed bothered about his teeth coming through even when six turned up at the same time. At least it makes you feel like you're doing something.0
