Not experienced this yet, as I've decided to carry on my subscription for a few months until I have watched what I want to watch.
I will say that I tried Amazon and LoveFilm on the free trial and found Amazon to send out discs much slower (2 lovefilm DVDs watched/returned to 1 Amazon) and to have had 2 faulty Amazon discs so far...
So whilst paying, I am impressed with LoveFilm's range, turnover and service.
But thanks for the heads up, when it comes to cancelling, I will follow the advice and be sure to keep an eye out for money being taken without authorisation.0 -
hooray!!!!
the elusive £20 has finally returned to my account :T
i sent my dvds back yesterday, recorded delivery (68p well spent IMO), and cancelled last night online.
so *hopefully* i shouldnt have any more problems with themI don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Well done tankgirl.
A pity it's had to come to this but in view of the question marks over Lovefilm's service, cancellation's clearly the most sensible course.
Our first DVD arrived yesterday and we watched it last night and have posted it back by 68p Signed For just now.
I'm off to the Lovefilms site now to empty my DVD list and will then cancel on Monday night after 10pm.
Glad you got your money back!:T0 -
Another story to add - back in September I was emailed by screenselect trying to tempt me back on a 3 months for the price of 1 offer. I thought this was quite good so thought I'd take advantage of it before tarting off to Amazon or Blockbuster, so signed up on October 3rd. However, then they turned into LoveFilm. Oh dear. In both November and December I have been charged for a month's use at £12.49 a time. In November I noticed this and complained. Their response was to agree that I should be on the offer and also said in the email that i wouldn't be charged again until February. I wasn't entirely happy that I'd have to stick with them for another month but rather than fight it out, I agreed. However, this month they are claiming that I didn't use the correct link to sign up for the offer so it is invalid but as 'goodwill' they'll keep all my cash and only charge me again in March. Apart from the fact that I don't have faith that they won't take money yet again next month and I'll have to repeat this process, I want to escape them! Anyone got advice on my legal right? I still have the email where they admitted they were wrong. If I really didn't use the link, why didn't they pick it up last month? They are pathologically opposed to giving refunds, aren't they?0

hi Jaype --
Sorry to hear about your experience. . !
For possible further action on your part, here's a note I posted earlier this month:

Oh no! I'm horrified to read all of this!
A couple of weeks ago, my friend said she did the three months for the price of one deal - which is a good deal. She said she signed up, then found out that her discs had been sent to her old address, called up Lovefilm who said her account had been cancelled, and they also took the £14.99 from her account and still havent' given it back two weeks later!!
I decided to sign up, forgetting what my friend had said, ordered my discs, they were sent out a week ago and I haven't seen them. Then yesterday I was having a look at my account, and realised that my old address was on there - so that is where the discs had been sent!!!!!! I realised that they must have been asking me to re-activate a very old account! I think when i re-signed up, my address should have been confirmed. I would not have thought to have checked. So, the discs are at my old house and I emailed Lovefilm to tell them. TALK ABOUT NOT READING MY EMAIL properly! They simply sent back a template email telling me where i can change my address in my account. I have had to email them back saying 'thanks for the email but you didn't answer my question!'. I haven't heard back yet and I'm sure they say they will reply within 24 hours - this was three days ago!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I just hope they get their act together!!:eek:Money money money!0 -
I have just joined so i am bit unsure of things on the forums. If you are interested in getting a 30 day free trial with https://www.lovefilm.com instead of the usual two weeks use the following code. RAF96.
My experience with lovefilm has been fine at the moment.0 -
i recently cancelled a sub to lovefilm... no probs (so far)
however their turnaround for sending ou films was abysmal (hence the cancellation) amazon films was much better. i could post a dvd back on a friday and by monday a fresh one would plop on my doormat. im trying another online dvd rental firm now just to try it out. mymoviestream. not sure how good it is yet as only just signed up. please don't anyone tell me any horror stories about them!Sorry but please keep your signature to 4 lines in length - MSE Forum Team 20 -
Lovefilm are getting worse, I feel it would be more worth it to flush my money down the loo.
Send DVD back over the weekend and they only send another one out on Wednesday. So I only get 2 DVDs a week, instead of the 4 I normally. That is not unlimited rentals is it?
does complaining to trading standards council work? I might pop them a brief note of my wonderful experiences.0 -

Lovefilm has been censured by the Advertising Standards Authority over its use of the word "unlimited".
The ASA judged that Lovefilm was not capable of meeting every customer's expectation of an unlimited supply of DVDs because Lovefilm does not have the resources to do so.
Lovefilm argued that all it was doing was operating a "fair usage" policy to ensure that all customers should have an equal opportunity to receive the DVDs they signed up for.
But "fair usage" in this case seems to have more to do with Lovefilm's "fair treatment" of its customers than the customers' treatment of Lovefilm.
Monopolising the UK market by drawing in thousands of new subscribers may be good for profits, but if Lovefilm's DVD stocks aren't similarly increased to satisfy the demand Lovefilm itself has created, then customer frustration is inevitable.
Hence the ASA's criticism of the company and the reality that "unlimited" actually means -- in Lovefilm's case -- "limited".0
