One thing we should pick on up here guys - the Company has always told us we're self-employed but as an earlier poster said, we perform the same work week after week and have to attend the office every week for briefings etc so the Inland Revenue should be having a very close look at Provident as we are all actually be employed by the Company. If so we are then entitled to minimum wage, holiday entitlement, holiday pay, toilet/smoke breaks, paye, NI contributions etc. At the moment (Under the terms of the Employment Act) the company are taking illegal deductions from our wages but as they classify us as self-employed they assume we'll just lie down and suffer it. What we all have to do is tell the Inland Revenue that we perform the same job week after week for the same company and that we all have to report back to the same company on a weekly basis with interviews with our manager and let the IR judge if we really are employed by the company ot self-employed. To be honest how many of you feel you're self-employed when the Company TOTALLY dictate the terms under which you are employed?0

Something that has not been mentioned on here yet did you all realise that this system was run for 2 weeks before it started ( wk 13 ) , to see how it would pan out without the agents even knowing about it !0

I have said this along the lines just go onto HMRC and do the test everytime i came out as employed same with the other companies too. Agents have never actually questioned it, i did once with my business and area managers and they both agreed with me but wouldn't actually back me up to their bosses.0

Yea this is a can of worms that the Company definitely does not want opening - just imagine the cost of having to change our status to 'Employed' so they like to do the dirt on us at every opportunity and we've always just accepted it as we dealt with them on an individual basis but this time its different, we are starting to organise on here with our thoughts and opinions. In our area we have organised a meeting with CAB, Labour Relations Agency and a Solicitor (will post on here when I have news - hopefully in a couple of days) so it is time we took a stand against the Crooks.0

Now speaking to someone from the Self employed helpline and they have given me a number to try to clarify if we are employed or selfemployed. They are called the Status team and their number is 01274 204666 so now gonna give them a ring. By the way the lady who i just spoke to about self employment was very surprised we got a P60 from Provident as you only get them if you are employed!0

I emailed a complaint to head office about the recent changes and how we are being unfairly penalised with these deductions. Thought you may be interested in their reply implying I hadn't undersood these new changes.
Dear xxxx
I would like to thank you for your email below, which I will forward to senior management out in the field.
As part of the Company’s long term plan to deliver quality customer growth, with effect from Thursday 7 April, as you know the Company introduced a number of changes to the existing commission scheme.
These changes represent a balanced approach and support better quality focus for both Managers and Agents. In order to ensure the scheme has been fully explained to you your letter has therefore been forwarded to the Area Manager who will address your concerns.
