Just an update on my previous post. It turned out someone applied for an account with K&Co and purchased high value goods using my details. Because of the high cost, the company tried to contact me using the number provided and it was dead, so they sent the letter. The positive thing is that they didn't ship the goods. They now closed the account.0

I received my first letter from these people 2 weeks ago telling me that on the 4th Otober 2010 I had an outstanding account of £247.40 and it had been transferred to MKDD LLP.Today I received another letter from Mk Rapid Recoveries telling me I had ignored there previous letter and I must make this payment.I have not had anything from anyone on credit and have looked on this site and now feel better to to know I am not the only person receiving these letters.I am not going to phone or contact them so they can harass me but will let you know if I receive more letters.Initially I was very upset until I put there name in google and came across this website.Thankyou all I feel relieved.:)0

Honestly, this is completely Statute Barred and as such they should NOT be demanding payment. They CANNOT take any further action on this.
Next step, IGNORE all further correspondence from these people. If it makes you feel better, simply return them unopened with Not Known on them.

I can't see what makes you think this is SB from this post. It sounds like it just isn't the poster's debt.
The choices are either ignore and let them harass someone else until they scare someone enough to get payment.
Or send a prove-it, require final response within 8 weeks, then report the whole scam to Trading Standards, FOS and OFT.
I'm already on record about which option I recommend but I understand people's reluctance to do battle. I'm just waiting for them to send me one!

I too have been getting letters and phone calls from this company for a debt I have never owed ,when I asked the woman on the phone what the debt was for she could not tell me only that it was from a long time ago ,I said if the debt was mine which it was'nt, surely it would be statute barred ...silence .....I told her it had nothing to do with me and to stop calling me. I did remember not to admit to anything even though it was nothing to do with me but I have to say they try really hard to confuse you and tie you up in knots ! (Just stay in control remember it has nothing to do with you)
After that I did what you suggested and used the letter template and sent it recorded postage ,(I also remembered not to sign the letter but print it )
I have today received a letter appologising etc etc and enclosing a leaflet of how to go about reporting them if I wished to the ombudsman .
I would like to thank everyone on here for their advice and guidance ,it was a very frightening experience and I am truly glad it is all over, anyone else going throught the same experience just get that letter sent !0 -
I've just had a phonecall from these jokers, asking for my boyfriend. I thought it was somebody else and said he wasn't in at the moment and asked who it was. When she said 'rapid recoveries' I questioned why she was calling, and she said she couldn't discuss it with me. I then said to her that recoveries sounded like a debt thing and that I knew he didn't have any debt owing to anybody, but she wouldn't discuss it further.
Upon speaking to my fella, he said he spoke with somebody over the phone recently about a Nationwide account that he hadn't used for many years, MoreThan had continued to take payments after us cancelling our insurance, which had caused the account to be get charges added on - hence a 'debt' as such. At the time, my fella called and explained that this was what had happened, and didn't acknowledge that the charges were fair, or his fault and we thought that was the end of that.
I'm pretty sure this will be statute barred by now, since we've been at our new house for almost 6 years - and I believe this all went on before we moved, if I remember correctly. I'm just worried as I don't know what he said to them over the phone (he didn't make a payment or anything) as to whether they can reset the statute of limitations from a phonecall? I told him to not acknowledge anything if they called again as it's statute barred, but I don't know what, if any, damage could have been done.
They don't seem to be writing to us, just telephone calls so I don't know what to do, whether to get him to send a letter saying it's statute barred, or asking for the agreement that he signed for the bank or what. We obviously don't want to be liable for something again, especially since it's through no fault of his own that MoreThan continued to attempt to take money for a closed down insurance account.
Can they reset a statute barred account just by talking about it to the person? Or does it have to be in writing?
Thanks. x0 -

It has to be in writing - a clear acknowledegement of the debt by the debtor or their agent.
As for contacting them, you can't really do anything until they write to you. At the moment you're putting two and two together on this and it might turn out that MKRR are chasing something different.
The hybrid 'don't recognise debt/statute barred anyway' letter might suit you eventually.0 -
There's definitely something fishy going on with this company.
Today I received the same letter that other people have got about "identification details being used by another person to inpersonate you". I'm tempted to ignore it but I guess I'm going to have to call to get it sorted, even though I think its some sort of a scam. Something should be done about this company.0
