Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 14th April 2011. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning All
Cant believe that i am the first one here this morning
Today I will be off to Lakeside as DS is off on his trip on sunday and needs a few bits n bobs
Dinner tonite is pizza so nice and easy
Had some bad news yesterday my cousins eldest son has just been found to have kidney problems and they are doing tests to see if he needs dialysis or a transplant he is 4 days older than my DS so we are all really worried
I hope that you all have a really good day and that the sun shines where you are0 -
Tired Mum - Lots of positive vibes for your cousins eldest, must be a worrying time. Love to you too.
Today is going to be an interesting day! Yesterday I set myself a challenge to smarten up the house for £100. There are 7 rooms I need to do (not doing the boys rooms!) so I thought I'd start on the smallest room - our ensuite as the shower door is growing its own mushrooms.
Started to take the shower apart to be able to give it a good clean and disinfect and demould, noticed that some of the tiles on the base were a bit loose, so pulled them off carefully, then noticed that the skirting board underneath the tiles looked a bit black, so pulled that off - Yuk yuk yuk. Black wood everywhere - looks like the shower door has been leaking for a while. So thought I'd lift the lino to check the chipboard floor. BIG MISTAKE. A lot of the chipboard floor is black - from where the shower has been leaking. Have left it all to dry out, but will need to go and get a replacement lino today.
Thought I'd check the main bathroom as the boys splash in the bath a lot. So lifted the lino to find yuky black mould all around the toilet. Spent some time scrubbing that last night with a very strong bleach solution (and I scrubbed the lino too) and then had the heating on for 4 hours and it has dried out a treat. (Saving the floor AND the lino!! - very OS!!) Today will scrub with bleach solution around the shower and then take the boys on a trip to B&Q to get replacement lino, screw covers etc. Will also have a go at making my own bathmat to go around the edge of the shower to stop this from happening again.
Other things on my list today are simply survival with the boys (its holiday time!) and something out of the freezer for tea - not sure what yet, depends what I find. No wet beds last night - YIPEEEEMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all
Sorry to hear your bad news Tired Mum.
Hubby's been dropped at the station with his packup, DW loaded & started, steak & kidney in the slow cooker along with carrots, mushrooms, onion & a couple of spoonfuls of baked beans that were lurking in the fridge, pastry is in the fridge, when I get in later I can throw together 3 steak & kidney pies, one for tonight & 2 for the freezer. I need to feed the fish before they think I've forgotten them.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
tired mum hope you all get good news. esmf nice work on the OS shower restoring!:money:
A little shout out and thank you to butterflybrain for advice re: our house purchase, I looked into all the reasons why they may have dropped the valuation at the last minute but mortgage company explained it was because the surveyor valued it as a 4 bed house initially then when building regulations came it showed that despite there being a fixed stair case the loft room didn't meet regs for a bedroom so re-valued it as a 3 bedroom. Thing is we knew it wasn't a fourth bedroom and had had our own private survey to establish if it was structurally safe (which it is) Sadly our budget won't stretch to an official 4 bed so we were happy to compromise with a 3 bed and loft room as long as it was safe. The good news for us is we got the house for £4000 less than we'd originally agreed and is actually £20,000 than it was advertised for when it went on sale last year. We exchanged contracts yesterday and are set to complete on the 21st (I hope).
Work also phoned me yesterday, they want me to return or at least go for a meeting, assurances have been made that I won't be spoken to like I was, I told them i'd think about what I was going to do and let them know today but couldn't see how the boss would want me working for him if i'm so unreliable, untrustworthy and unprofessional (his words as he screamed in my face!!) If truth be told I don't want to go back but we're desperate for the money so I may have to.:(
On a nice note off the hospital for ante-natal appt this morning, OH's mum has got all the kids - all four of them in her tiny little flat:eek:
Poor Woman!
Love and hugs to all

Morning all. Work is obviously good for me - normally lie in until the dog kicks me out of bed. Instead this morning I bounced out of bed with DH at 0645 and started flying.GC Mar 13 £47.36/£1500

Good morning all,
Grey, dull and cold here at the moment.
I do enjoy the holidays though. I must achieve some major decluttering here. I have wittered on about it for months and months. I really must have a big chuck out of unwanted clutter (but it might be useful - NOT!)
Dinner yesterday was lo BBQ ribs from Monday with lo boiled potatoes made into a sort of Pan Haggerty. Added half a chopped onion to lo creme fraiche & mozzarella salad and spinach from the garden as a filling. It was really scrummy. Mozarella chicken with woopsied cauli and lo new potatoes for dinner tonight.
Didn't strip the visitors' beds yesterday as will wait for a good drying day.
Hope I can fill the car with grot and recycle, take it to a cs or to the dump. I really need to do this!!
Happy Thursday peeps, hugs to those who need or want.
Cheers m'dears, Silver xOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Morning All,
Grey here again. Sorry to hear about the boy tiredmum, fingers crossed and good vibes for your family. xx
miecherox glad you've got things sorted out
ESMF get you, all efficient, I like your £100 challenge, what a fab idea, you should start a Fred for that!
Today I will be turning the laptop off and getting on top of things, then me and the boys are off to the Art Gallery and if the weather is OK, the park for a few hours. If you've never been to Glasgow, if you ever get there, you must visit Kelvingrove - its amazing! The boys' new XBox was set up last night, so no doubt they will be itching to get their fingers on that for an hour whilst I clean up. I need to do bread, and am going to make a pot of minestrone for dinner for them, I have been bad the last few days, and will be majorly detoxing today and tomorrow.
Have good days everyone.

Just up, going to the pool in a bit, have to get DD out of her pit as she wants to go too. Meeting a friend for lunch so it will be good for a catch up on the gossip!
Weather not too good again, grey and overcast so probably no washing on the line again.
Sorry to hear of Cousin's boy Tired Mum, hugs to you all. Miecherox - hope all goes well with boss, don't take any more of his bullying ways. Hope everyone else is ok, hugs if you need or want one! Take care. XX0 -
