As said by pulliptears too there is some sort of box that controls the electrics that can cause this and it's a bit pricey but still worth checking everything else before panicking.

A google of clio uch problem makes interesting reading :(

Yep Multi Timer, or UCH unit, as I said earlier its position in the passenger footwell puts it in direct line of water tracking down from the sunroof in older Clio's making it a very common, and rather expensive problem.

The car needs to be reprogrammed to I believe, making it harder to find an independent to do it. I don't know where you are Mandi, but I was fortunate to find an ex main dealer who still had the kit in Biddulph (Staffordshire) otherwise it would have been a lot more expensive.

Make a few calls and try some independents first, it was a few years ago when mine went so more places may have the kit now?

It is pricey, but Im happy to say its the only issue I have ever had with my little 99 Clio, he's just approaching 30k now and keeps plodding on :D

I will Pullip thank you . I really want the car roadworthy. It's ran for 7 years without a major problem and I'm kind of attached to it .:)

Same, my late Dad bought him for me so I'm a bit sentimental with him lol
I keep being told about how awful Renault are but have to say the Clio has been a dream really with very few issues. That said, he's off for an MOT on Saturday....I may be back here ranting ;)

    Good luck hun

You can pick up used units but you need to swap over a few bits and pieces there is a company near me who i use who specialize in clio's i think they charge between £100 - £160 depending on engine (what engine you got?) they will post it out with 3 months warranty.

I have seen fitting for around £50 too i will pm you some details later as i can't post links in here, First thing i would do is check the battery connections and all the relays etc before going down the worst scenario route.
