  • Halloween Queen - ASDA do onion granules which are very fine and like powder. I use them for dry rubs which is what I assume you want them for.
  • Hi - I find the following helpful for US to UK food translation and for substituting hard to find ingredients.

They are lovely! Like little savoury scones that you have with a KFC or chicken and biscuits! You can get a recipe for the KFC one on www.topsecret.com but i didn't really like them and they seemed a lot of faffing about, several US sites have them. Over to HOLsale for the proper translation!!!!!

there are a few mom and pop type fried chicken chains like popeyes chicken that make biscuits with honey in them, to die for!

google for a biscuit recipes and you'll find loads of them if they ask for bisquick just use self rising flour and a teaspoon of baking soda, that should do it just fine!

I like them too. It's another thing we fetch back.I've seen something that looks similar but never bought them in the deli section of Ikea.

Another favourite of mine is catalina dressing. Again I've never seen it here, so I fetch it back and it's ok if it stops in my fridge a long time cos canadians don't date stamp a lot of their goods yet

i can't make my favourite dish of taco salad because i can't figure out how to make catalina or french dressing (american style, it's sweet), how i've missed that dish!

    Hiya HOLsale,

Are Pinto beans the same as aduki beans or red kidney beans or something altogether different?

I need to start making my own refried beans.

    Thanks icon7.gif

no they are small and dark beige with brown spots. i can find them here at some ethnic grocers and frequently at health food shops

they are the quintessential bean for mexican and tex mex cooking you CAN make refried beans with drained and rinsed baked beans but they aren't quite the same

    Hi HOLsale

What are soda crackers? Are they like water biscuits or cream crackers?

Also when a recipe talks about chicken "dressing" does it mean what we call stuffing? I keep think ing of salad dressing but that can't be right

    Cheers

i think when they say soda crackers they mean saltines

dressing in regards to poultry is stuffing... stovetop stuffing is very popular in the states, you don't have to cook it inside a bird...not like paxo here, i've tried just cooking paxo on the cooker, doesn't turn out well at all!
