What's the best O2 will offer?

Oh..well the advisor online definately said I could reduce monthly from now on until I reached a tariff that was appropriate... I'll give it a go next month and see how I get on. I took out the contract in Dec 2009..it's up in December anyway so I'll probably look at a SIM only deal/PAYG then and just keep the phone!20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

Inspired by a mini success I had this morning I thought I'd join the forum.
I have an iPhone and had an 18 month o2 contract for £45 per month due to expire in August 2011. I had 1200 texts and 1200 minutes per month plus unlimited internet. To be honest I used only a fraction of this.
I called o2 this morning to see what they could offer and with very little negotiation required I now have a rolling monthly contract for a total of £21.50 per month. This includes 300 texts, unlimited minutes and 500MB of internet (plus unlimited wifi).
As I understand it, I am now on the "simplicity tariff". Definitely worth a phone call - 5 minutes has saved me £23.50 per month (plus I am no longer tied to my long term contract).0 -
300 minutes and unlimited texts I guess?silly2savvy wrote: »... 300 texts, unlimited minutes and 500MB of internet...
If so, you can get 400min+unlimited+unlimited for £15 at giffgaff.
The network is the same (O2)0 -

While it's still a good saving, I don't understand why they would allow you out of a contract 4 months early and put you on Simplicity?
Also, like grumbler has said - it's probably 300mins, unlimited texts, and 500mb data. You might want to check this.
One other thing to be aware of... if you were on an old tariff with a set amout of texts, you could use them for MMS and roaming texts at a rate of 4:1 from your allowance - this is no longer the case and anything other than a standard UK text is now chargeable.
A lot of people have been caught out by not having these new terms explained to them.0 -
Good point on the MMS - I forgot to mention I also have 23 free MMS messages a month (no idea where that figure came
from!). I'll double check all the paperwork once it's come through. You may well be right on the messages/minutes - I use very few of either so didn't pay too much attention to which was unlimited. I have to admit, I'm surprised by their offer - I'd advise anyone to call and see what they can get. With regard to giffgaff, correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks as though they only offer PAYG, therefore this would not be an escape from any existing contract with your current provider. Thank you for your advice.0 -
I don't understand what 'escape' you are talking about. If you are on a rolling contract, just give 1 month notice and switch to whatever you want, including PAYG at O2 or any other provider. I am not sure if you can port your number directly from O2 to giffgaff, but in any case this can easily be done.0

Sorry grumbler - I misunderstood, I thought you were referring to giffgaff as an option to get out of my 18 month contract. I now see what you mean. That sounds like a plan - give notice tomorrow and in 30 days save even more by switching to giffgaff.
This time next year, we'll be millionaires!0 -
Make sure that it really is a rolling contract first. It's still unclear why they allowed you to get out of 18 months contract so early.0
-
Orange are very good - they review your contract every 6 months and move you down onto a cheaper tariff if it makes more sense for you. Im on a 24 month £30 plan with a free HTC Desire and got moved to the £15 a month plan after 6 months, no catches. I presume if you always go over your minutes they would move your plan upwards to save you money as well.0
-
Just to clarify - I've received the paperwork.
£21.50 per month (rolling contract)
300 minutes
unlimited texts
500MB data
20 MMS messages
They didn't seem to have a problem with ending my contract 4 months early. Clearly, there really is no harm in asking sometimes. May well take grumblers advice and switch to giffgaff soon.0
