Please could you quit using CAPS in your posts? It is seen as shouting...if you need to highlight something, make it bold/italicize it.
Now bank on topic...
In my defense, I come from an RBS background and no savings accounts ever came with a Visa Debit. From a banking point of view, I completely agree with this. Also you make recall sometime last year, after a long time, they stopped customer from setting up direct debits & standing orders from savings accounts. This was to encourage saving, which is what the account is for.
Secondly, I am not customer facing and I'm not required to be knowledgeable about such accounts.
As for your other comment regarding the description on the Natwest website, it states:
Cash machine withdrawals – with an optional debit card you can get your money at cash machines displaying the logo shown on your card
See how the fact that it is a Visa Debit card is not being promoted? I would personally see that as a feature of the account, yet it is not listed in the benefits. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually phase it out.
Lastly, Step accounts can be opened if you have been discharged from bankruptcy, so I'd open it in person if you wish to, and take your discharge documents with you.
Whatever, you were wrong, admit it and move on.
And as for them withdrawing the debit card, they had the opportunity to do that when they got rid of the Solo card, so I think its very unlikely.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -
I tried to open a NW First Reserve, and tried it in my local branch (Dartford), there was a kerfuffle, and I had to ring an 0131 number, and spoke with someone up in Edinburgh (I presume RBS, rather than NW), and he clarified my previous addresses - then, I went to another near-by branch (Orpington), and tried again to open an FR account, and the card and PIN arrived, but I wasn't on the system, and the girl (pretty dippy, I have to say), said the account was ''just closed''.
Bemused, after having given the DHSS these new a/c details, she said: ''we don't know why''
However, as this wasn't credit checked, then, surely, there wouldn't have been a problem...
ThanksSadly out-of-work due to a kerfuffle with my health, and now a self-employed Telegraph-reading, Radio 3-listening tea-drinker with the knowledge of every postcode from Dartford to Dumbarton (Asperger's), and walk like Pingu.
Debt letters decorate my shredder very nicely, thank-you! Credit Rating: 278; Defaults: 7, since 2008 :cool:0 -
I have spoken to the Natwest who have confirmed that it is a debit card, it can be used in shops to buy goods, you can pay in cheques and money at the branch.
The Yorkshire Building Society only allows internet payments and comes with a cash card to allow you to get your money out.If you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -

They don't credit check you, but they do fraud and ID checks, so it sounds like something has flagged up when they have searched you that they don't likeDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -

That is what I mean, her comments about able to do this or that is pretty irrelevant if you are or have been br0

Anybody come across these? the are or seem to be backed by the Newcastle Building Society and RBS although not owned by them
You pay a set fee every month, they move enough money into your bill account and leave the rest free for you to spend, might be OK for those on here who seem unable to get a bank account. If you woke up this morning congratulations, you have another chance :j0 -
They cropped up on a thread recently and are BR friendly. Although I don't see the need to pay a fee when Barclays and Co-op provide free BR friendly banking. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
