Hi Stingebag and welcome to this merry bunch of fellow skinflints lol

Only advice I'd give is to try and get your OH on board - much easier of you've got some help from him or her at home!

  • Hello Stingebag,
What a lovely start well done. My husband isn't really interested either. He is very keen on not wasting food though and ensuring all food has been cooked and eaten and meals are planned properly. And was happy to turn the heating off early April... so perhaps something rubs off.

He and I get pocket money, I save mine and try to go away for a weekend with my friends once a year and he spends his on clothes and moisturiser!!!

This is a fantastic forum and you will pick up lots of little tips which are fantastic, sometimes people swoop in with big answers and then you know there are some very financially savy bods around.

Well done and best of luck

Nil debt for some many years now perhaps 8. Need to save for a tent for holiday this year but nil else.
Over paying about £500 per month but fancy £600 so will have to think of some very money saving techniques...

    Good morning folks :hello:

Back to work, back to life, back to reality ;). Had a lovely thrifty few days off work. Managed to blag some rather snazzy Next shorts and teeshirts from the local carbooty for baby boy and a brand new top for moi :).....total spent £3.50:D.

Have decided this week to make my own lunch and not to be lead into temptation by the local Bakery who make totally gorgeous sarnies not to mention yummy cream slices;).

Hope to see mortgage go beneath the 100K mark as well this month - Hurrah!!!:j.

    Take care, stingebag;)

Ohhhh, have just sneaked in another op of £150 and I feel rather excited:j.

End of the working week for me and I cant believe that I have not been lead into temptation by my local bakery with its totally gorg cream slices, but instead have opted for good old homemade sarnies :). Cant be sure I will continue my new found good behaviour over the weekend, but hey ho gotta have a bit of fun;).

    Have a nice weekend everybody.

    Bit peeved off really:mad:

Managed to blow up my super duper steam generator iron over the weekend so guess that will cost me big style:(.

Also checked with Northern Rock that my overpayments have been allocated to the correct part of my mortgage ( the secured loan part) and was told yes - hurray I say - but sadly they have set the account up incorrectly and they will adjust the monthly payments everytime I get upto a £500 overpayment......grrrrrrr:mad:.

Bit annoyed really because I have checked twice with them that they have followed my instructions and was told yes!!

Never mind, life goes on, will get it sorted in the end.

    Have a nice day, Stingebag;)

Excellent thread. Keep up the good work.
I am the same as yourself, all I want to do is clear the one and only debt we have - the mortgage !

We are on a superb tracker also BofE +0.62 for life now. I would throw every penny possible at the mortgage but SWMBO constantly reminds me we have to live as well, so the overpayments remain in moderation (around £300 pcm) and we do have rainy day money stored just in case needed...
we saved and had a great holiday to Orlando back in April 2010 and we are saving to return in early 2012 now as our two girls loved it out there. (Me also, especially driving the Jeep Commander we had!!)

    Hi whichbuy:wave: Hi hillcats:wave:.

Nice of you to pop by :).

To get below 100k for me is a big achievement and I will do it this month - and that will make me very very happy :D.

Hillcats, would love to do the Orlando holiday with firstborn, baby boy and a fool.....but really really trying to restrain myself at the mo with spending...coz if I let go of the reins for one minute then a fool will have me bankrupt;).

It is not a cheap holiday to Orlando, we paid £5,500 last year, but it is worth it...
