Avast! Antivirus problem tonight

What AV you choose is up to you...you shouldn't let anyone's opinion dictate what you use, nor should you "slag off" other users because of what you use...
I had a feeling this would turn into one of those threads...please don't...it is not necessary...-Scott-

no problems this side on any of my machines / agree with RussJ / interfaces are subjective/ I very much like that of Avast's //
McAfee's (I don't use ) is bloody awful/ new version of Norton I have not used so cannot comment on/BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

The machine will be so slow with Avira running in the background that it won't be possible to type anywhere
Tried it once and it was awful. Horrible interface
Avast may have been a problem last night but for a freebie can't really complain too much
There was definitely something amiss there as Avira runs fine
I have no problems with Avast, I just dont understand why so many Avast users slag off Avira:idea:0 -

reading through this is hilarious, people are threatening to go to AVG and McAfee, they obviously have short memories of this and this, IMO far worse than the avast problem.
what's even more funny is the people who have lost 'important' work and project files, they obviously weren't that important if you didn't need to have an up-to-date backup of them.
you know what I would loose if my computer was stolen/got a catastrophic virus/was abducted by aliens, right this second?
four wallpapers! that's it, all work is backed up at any change, simply because it is important and I don't want my hard work work lost.0 -
The thing that gets me is the ones that are complaining about lost files because THEY deleted them seem to have the knowledge about thing like this...
I can understand someone who has very little knowledge about computers deleting files simply because they don't know, but someone who works on computers, watching their files being deleted? Really? I think they would spot something is up before they reached a few thousand important work files deleted...
On the other hand I don't see the point in people posting there just to insult those that did delete...that is just unhelpful and will most likely make the problem worse...
This also highlights, for me at least, the fact that I am not liking where AV protection in general is going...nowadays nobody wants to be involved with what is going on and they are happy to have everything set to auto...but when a problem does arise, all hell breaks loose...
If it were up to me, and I made the program...there would be no direct delete option, and no automated actions...but then again, that may not sell at all...-Scott-

Respect to the AVAST guys for dealing with it so quickly. But it is one HUGE mistake that should never have happened in the 1st place
I wouldnt be suprised if people could get together and put a massive lawsuite together to claim for lost files and costs
ALL av manufacturers should put safety limits in place to make sure things of this nature cant ever happen (Quality control if you will):idea:0 -
I was lucky and did not lose anything.
In fact it was over protecting
I was browsing on safe sites BBC News, Sky Sports etc and it kept saying Malware found access denied
So it was almost like Big Brother over reacting and preventing me from causing any harm.0 -
