Yeah I think I managed to get it before the rush...seems with everyone trying to update, it is overloading the servers...giving error messages...-Scott-

Oh no! I thought my laptop was virus infected so run a scan, which reported 3,000-odd viruses. It then went into a boot scan and is currently deleting hundreds of files. I expect that will be the end of my laptop!!!!0

Can you stop the scan? I think Esc? Haven't done one in a while, let me check.-Scott-

Yes, I just pressed escape and it is back into Windows 7. It seems okay now. Fingers crossed!

Eep!
Well hopefully you'll be able to run a system restore. At worst, use a bootdisk & file recovery tool to get anything you need from it.
Edit: maybe you really do have a virus; the link below shows that as expected, the faulty definitions once again only affected the web shield.
Edit2: that same link points out others have had local html files detected and removed. You may lose html files as part of help files for programs in that case; a simple reinstall, or using a file recovery program will suffice.0
