Avast! Antivirus problem tonight

Hello

This morning I was able to connect to the internet, load my home page, and surf around different websites with no problem at all.

I arrived home tonight and when I connected to the internet, Avast! updated itself with the latest virus definitions as it usually does.

But since it updated, it is blocking absolutely every site I try to connect to as being malicious i.e. it is blocking my homepage from loading, it's blocking Facebook, absolutely everything.

I've had to completely disable it just to post this message here. What's gone wrong? Please help!

Thank you

hey mine the same, if you can get on to google and google avast then hit the bit that says search for real-time posts containing avast you will see how widespread it is......dunno what the problem is but someone's cocked up. Also the actual avast site seems to be unavailable.......

Turn Avast back on, but just disable the web guard. Then best idea will be to go to the Avast web forums and ask there for assistance.

Edit: I can't get to Avast forum, and I'm not using Avast on this machine at the moment.

I'd advise people to install some addition protections if using Avast without the webguard, as you'll be exposed to web threats. Feel free to follow the advice in this post:

I've just turned off auto definition updates for avast, I have the definitions from 8 o'clock this morning, and I'll turn auto update back on when this problem has been solved.

thank you for bringing this to my attention, it's prob just a bad definition update, similar things have happened to mcafee and AVG in the past.
  • In the same boat here

Although pre update version on my laptop is ok

Appears to be the 110411 update that is the problem

110410 on the laptop is fine

It is the 110411-1 virus defs that are causing the problem.

there are 2 updates a day, I have the 110411-0 and this is fine, it will be the 110411-1 evening update that's the problem.

if you have the 110411-0 update or earlier, turn off the auto update of virus database, but remember to turn it back on after the problem has been fixed.
