    Hi All

I hope those affected by the recent rain are safe and well.

I have not slept too well the last couple of nights, too hot then too cold so feel tired today. Got my consultants appointment through but not till November so unless they call me in sooner that is a good sign, but think I need to get to the GP to sort HRT as lack of sleep does not do me good:mad:

However, I am well pleased that the new washing machine arrived at 7.35 this morning and my beloved OH was able to plumb it in before work :T

One load on the line and next load in and thankfully my dear family have taken to heart that we have been machine less since Friday and there is not too much stacked up to do.

Have a good day all and stay safe

    Hi all
Been reading this thread - it is all sooooo me!! and there are only 2 of us. OH uses something and just puts it down anywhere when he has finished with it - he never wonders why he can't find anything lol. I am not tidy either, but think I have a bit of OCD, and go at things like a bull at a gate, and then am exhausted, and it puts me off clearing up till next time.
I started reading the decluttering thread, and that has helped me loads. As you all advise - baby steps - or you feel overwhelmed. I am slowly getting sorted, and it is a great sense of achievement when you can see spaces lol.
One bit of advice - I had loads of stuff that I did not use, some of which was new, and I kept saying that I would sell it on ebay - we are on a pension and need the money. Trouble is I never got round to doing it - I hated listing on Ebay. So I had to make a tough decision - I decided that it would all go to CS. Once the decision was made, it was like a weight had been lifted. I found a charity that collected from our house ( Air Ambulance) and started sorting.
So far, doing a little bit each day in my bedroom - maybe an hour - they have collected
    10 big boxes of clothes
    1 box shoes
    1 box bedding
    1 box books
Time spread out, it took a week and a half to do it - I have been looking it in despair for about 5 years! I have been stupid and lazy. I still am lol, but more focussed, and it is addictive - when I finish one small job, I am thinking what shall I do tomorrow - this is rare for me.

My bedroom now has a tidy and relevant wardrobe, a clear carpet, and clear surfaces. I am so pleased - I even sleep better now.

    The kitchen is next lol!
  • Well done Godiva. I find decluttering to be addictive too!

I'm having a quick blitz everywhere today as I didn't do much yesterday as I was a bit off colour. So I'm going to do no more than 15 minutes in each room and see where we get to. I've already changed the sheets, dusted and cleaned the windows in my bedroom. Off to do the other bedrooms in a minute then see where I go from there.

Hope everyone's ok, have a good day.

    Hi all

Haven't been about for a while hope your all ok :)

Well i have my mum visiting again this weekend so I have had my housemate and a friend helping getting the house sorted. It actually wasn't as bad as I first thought and the majority of it is now done.

Granted it's not a palace but with all the doggy damage I can't really do anything about that. My husky is convinced there is something worth retrieving from under the carpet (there isn't) so has ripped holes in the carpet the little cow (still love her though)

My bedroom is still a bomb site but that's my room so not a problem.

I still have a lot of washing to do but on the whole it's looking good so I'm pleased.

  • Gilly, it must be a relief to have your new WM up & running!
YL - hope you managed to get things sorted with the school.
Godiva - welcome, & well done on the de-cluttering. Alec E, I wish I could find it addictive - I just hate `getting rid` of stuff, end up just moving it around.
Faith, well done to you as well. My old Daftie-dog sometimes thinks there`s something under the LR rugs, but just rucks them up and no permanent damage like there would be if it was carpeted.
I went for another sack of dogfood today & found the store have discontinued the brand (it was the only place in the area stocking it.) I could buy it online, but the faff of waiting for delivery, with my daft rota...no. SO, while I still have some of the old sack left, I`m now weaning Daftie onto another brand. First sampling (50/50 mix) has gone down very well....first poop after this will tell....
I don`t go to this much trouble feeding the humans in this household!
  • We don't have carpet in the living room or on the stairs as the buns chewed holes in them.

Emm, I know how you feel about just churning stuff rather than getting rid. I used to be the same, I was a hoarder. I kept everything and in the end I couldn't see the difference between something that was rubbish and something that was important.

But eventually things came to a point where I started dealing with mental stuff that lead me to be that way and it was a huge breakthrough. I used to be the person who kept the memories, and it spiralled as everything can be associated with something so there were old beer bottles, bits of fabric, the most ridiculous thing I kept was the napkin the first brownie I ever ate came wrapped in. I thought it was important to remember all this stuff but 1. it isn't and 2. I remember anyway! And if I forget, so what?

All that to say once I started getting rid of what I thought was important but wasn't decision making became easy and freeing.

I would love to have laminate through out but it's too much due to the size of my lounge :(

I've got it in my hallway and it's so much easier.

I will get round to it eventually but need to do some saving

Emm I know what you mean about the dog food. I have to check everything I buy my two huskies as neither of them get on with rice it makes them so ill. Also to keep their crazy levels down nothing can be over 21% protein it's a joke. One of my cats Hades has to have her food changed every two months or she gets bored and won't eat it :(

They eat far better than me on a Sunday they get all the left overs from the resturant I work in so they get steak, lamb, chicken ect and the cats don't do too badly either

A fellow messy with house bunnies :j They can be quite destructive! I can't wait to move in our new house where it is laminate throughout downstairs :D

Goodbye to the morning chore of trying to get the hay out of the carpet in their "bedroom" :rotfl:

    Evening messies.

Taliahmai and godiva, welcome, to the sensible madness that is de-messying. I'm so impressed that you've done so well already. :T

Taliahmai, how awful to find that your DDs have drawn over the wall! I think definitely confiscate pens and keep them for downstairs where you can supervise!

Emms, I sympathise about the dog food - so annoying when an animl is used to a particular type. We've had the problem before with cat food, and are now having to gradually change the pony's food, as he needs something to build him up a bit.

Faith, I hope you're picking up a bit now, although it's going to be tough, I'd guess. Laminate has its uses - we have it in the kitchen, and used to have it in the bathroom, too, put in by the previous owners. It is easy to keep clean, but it's so cold, to feel and to look at.

Gilly, I'm glad you're getting better, and feeling stronger. Good news about the WM! Of such simple happenings are our lives made happier. ;)

Well done for doing the floor, Alec e. :)

YL, I hope the school can help out, asap!

We discovered very quickly this morning - the first morning that we let the cats outside - that Garfield's going to be a hunter. The first place he went was under the bird feeder hanging from our big fir tree. So, his collar, complete with two bells, will be put on before he goes out again. And I've told him that if he dares catch a reed bunting in the winter, he's a pair of ginger mittens! Having had a cat for so long that wasn't at all interested in birds, and didn't even like being outside much, it's a bit of a change.

De-messying has been much as usual, a bit hit and miss. I try (and usually succeed) to clean the bathroom every morning, and keep dust at a minimum. We've discovered that the cats don't care at all about the vac, which is useful. With the recent rainy weather, the washing's built up a bit. Even in the conservatory, until today, it's not been too warm, and the heating's not on in the house yet. We don't have a launderette on this side of the island at all. It's the one time of year I don't like quite so much, jsut because it's so difficult to get washing dry before it gets that horrible stale smell. Just as well there's only the two of us.
