My home is a mess

One day of doing something different will make the other days easier, I'm sure.
Am gonna type this out and stick it on the wall near my desk. Home tutor came today and DS1 went into emotional meltdown. He has to do 4 hours work a week with the tutor. 4 hours a week thats waaaay too much!!!! AND she is going to expect him to do homework.
Hubby gently pointed out that DS2 spends 2 hours a day just travelling to school and back. Surprisingly that didnt go down well.
Sonastin you have got it sorted. I wish I had your attitude towards the housework when I used to work silly hours.
and Emm wasnt your change in rotas meant to be making life easier for you???
Way too many cute cat pics. I would kidnap one but my Jack Russell might not like the idea. Come on where are the dog owners? Or hamsters/guinea pigs etc.
Busy day tomorrow. Then weekend and I may actually see hubby as he has been working so much this week I have forgotten what he looks like. Night all!0 -
GR, Teddyis just that, isn't he? He looks so cuddly!
And, Val, your kitty is very cute, even if he is a little horror!
FW, so pleased the job went well, and you enjoyed your day.
YL, it's so sad. It seems that (and I may well have it wrong) that, although your DS is obviously poorly, he has it in his head that he's poorly therefore he can't do anything very much. And, because he's convinced himself of that, he feels useless and quite possibly bored. And because he's useless, he can't do anything - vicious circle. Just possibly, a home tutor telling him that he has to do that much will push him just a bit. He may not get that much done, but he'll have to do something, and that has to be a plus.0 -
Bearcub - going out is partly getting out of demessying, partly catching up on the socialising I don't do when OH is monopolising my time, partly squeezing a week's worth of home life into 4 days but mostly - if I'm honest, almost entirely - about the fact that I can't be bothered to cook for one. Its just too tempting to say "while OH is away, do you fancy going out for dinner"... to pretty much everyone! I might come home and batch cook up some ready meals to take for his dinners but I just don't fancy them for myself and out I go again!
Friend had to cry off tonight though - babysitting nephew1 while parents take nephew2 to hospital for something minor-but-scary-because-he's-their-baby (can't you tell she's sympathetic to their crisis!). So I managed some demessying. Well, a load in the WM (needs hanging out on the airer before bed - can't do it sooner or I won't be able to see the TV!) & running henry round the kitchen, utility room and bathroom. And caught up on about a dozen e-mails that I've been putting off sending which is part of why I've not had the puter on for a few days. So starting to get back in control.
YL - the attitude comes from a) being the only way to keep my sanity and b) being on my own. I couldn't live like this if OH was around. And if we had kids in the mix I really couldn't live with myself if made them live in a house like this - even though I think kids are probably more resilient than we give them credit for. I think Bearcub might have a point with your DS - a bit of tough love about what he needs to do might do wonders for his mental health without taking any real toll on his physical health. It is so easy for you all to get caught up in the idea that he mustn't do too much that he ends up believing he's not allowed, and then not able, to do anything at all. If the paralympics is telling us anything, its reminding us to focus on what can be done, not what can't. Even if its not as much as we're aiming for, the striving is part of the achievement.
Far too profound for this time of night. I think I need a glass of wine as a reward for taking Henry for a walk. (About as close to a pet as we're getting in this house!)0 -
I've just had a quick blitz this morning - beds, swish and swipe, sweeping, dishes, laundry, dusting, general tidying, so I can spend the rest of the day quilting. Have a good day everyone!0

Oh more gorgeous cats!
Val, I think you're right. He is a complete cutie. I want a black and white cat and he is just what I'd love to have. Had a tortie and a silver tabby previously, so time for a change!
gettingready, Teddy looks just like lolcatz in that pic of him stretched out on the windowsill. It is begging for someone to add a caption!0 -
Hi Folks!
Re catpix - they are rather lovely, though I`m more a dog-lover myself really.
Bearcub I hope your little shy-puss is settling in and getting a bit more confident - they both probably can`t believe their luck landing up with you in a loving home!
FW, I`m glad your first day at work went well.
BB, the drama group sounds a great idea, hope your DS takes it up.
YL - maybe your DS just needs time to get used to the home tutor idea, and once he gets into some sort of routine with her he`ll be fine. BIG (((HUGS)) to all with kids, whether they have problems or not....it`s SO much nicer being a grandmother!!
Re Friends - many wise words posted here. I too regard OH as my best friend - we were good friends long before he was OH & that hasn`t changed. I also regard some of my colleagues as friends too, though I generally don`t socialise with workmates.
I feel that I have made friends here on the forum as well, the fact that I`ve never met folks `in the flesh` doesn`t detract from that at all. My other `best friend`, from our training days together (I`m nearly old enough to be her mum, but we just always hit it off) is someone I rarely see these days, but we can just sort of pick up where we left off even after weeks of not being in touch, and we`ve been like this for 25 years.
Re my rota...
I nipped onto the ward to take a photocopy of the new rota (starts on Sunday) on way back from physio (got my neck stretched & don`t need another visit now unless I feel I need to, am on their `SOS` list for another month, otherwise discharged)
and guess what? The rota has been altered (again!) Tomorrow`s early is still on, last day of current rota, then 2 long-days, then 2 off (they saw that the Tuesday early would be too much - phew!!) Still feels like a bit of a marathon but I do prefer the long shifts, an `all or nothing` day!
I`ve been busy today -
shopping, playing caravan tetris again, cleaned fridge (had to, for shame, before I could put fresh food in there!) Blitzed kitchen (same!) & prepped for lasagne for tonight. Going to marinate some chicken for tomorrow, then lasagne leftovers with a salad for Sunday to save cooking after work.
Now just have to put uniforms in WM and I`ll be as `organised` as I`ll ever be for the next few days...
So I`m going to go potter in the garden, gather some marigold seeds & nasturtium seeds for next year, and maybe re-pot my little bay-tree.
Have a nice evening allxx0 -
Hello,
Can I join in?
My house has got into such a state lately. I work full time and I've also not been too well, so things have really slipped. However as Lovely Son is now back at school I will have a little more time. Had a go at the kitchen today (should have been working from home but luckily not too much on at the moment...shhh don't tell the boss). Feeling rather ashamed of myself..:o pulled out the microwave to clean work surface and there was a massive pile of crumbs and grot underneath.
I've bought myself an Organised Mum pocket life book as well to try and help with meal planning, birthdays, appointments etc.
Motivation is my problem, when it's get too bad I just don't know where to start and end up giving up.:(0 -
