    Hi Lizzie_B

Sounds like your off to a flying start! Good Luck!

Snookey enjoy your garden :) especially over the bank holiday you sound like you've earnt it.

Hope your painting goes ok JPS.

I'm having my new mattress delivered today I can't wait. My one is well passed it's best and should have been replaced a while ago but I just couldn't afford it. I'm going to go into town at lunch and treat my new bed to some new bedding that I like for a change. I always try to take OH's taste into consideration too but as he is going to be away he has no say lol

    Hope your all ok

  • Morning Messies! I`m still here, and messy as ever! Last few days completely bonkers on the ward, you know when you think it couldn`t get any worse, then it does? Another colleague gone off sick (did her back in), having to abandon our ward `teams` and just muck in together all over the ward where most needed next, plus having to argue with a doctor ("NOW!") to get something urgent done (twice!), 2 shift changes since my last post, and 2 more next week, group hugs from the night staff one morning they were so pleased to see us, a colleague in tears, and close to it myself yesterday but then RAGE took over, Christmas rota & next one discussed frankly (!) with a senior colleague who`s been cursed with the task....air cleared, understanding reached (and with more hugs too!) but Best of All - one of the patients I had to fight the doc over was finally comfortable and happy by the time I left yesterday. It wasn`t the doc`s fault, really, Bless`im, they were really pushed too. I have been described as a `Terrier`, a Rottie, and yesterday it was `Tigress`.
I don`t go into that mode very often, but sometimes you have to...
    Anyway, enough shop!
Haven`t yet sifted properly through all the last few pages (excuses listed above!) but
    must do a few quickies-
Cat - I`m so chuffed you`re getting your money back-dated! One up for the Good Guys!!XX
Tata - Congratulations! - when do you start?
LizzieB - welcome to the Messy Legion (We`re the `normal` ones, you know). I blame my shift pattern (or in my case, lack of pattern) for my lack of routine and so my messy status. But if I was a 9 to 5 worker I`m sure it`d be just as bad!
Busy Messies - well done those who`ve been painting, de-cluttering, and gardening.
Re `painted` pets - back when we had any major decorating binges here, and had 3 dogs at the time...ours was the only house with hairy door frames, as the dogs would always manage to nudge up to anything freshly glossed!
    Messy status?
Grim. DS is back from his GF`s. DGD is in residence again. I`m off today & tomorrow (neck physio appointment tomorrow morning again) then working all through weekend & bank hol. So hardly likely to have a tidy house in foreseeable future. Quality time with folks at home is the plan.
Today - wash my hair, do farm shop, change LR rugs/drop at launderette. Then an hour down at the pub with OH, then supervise DGD doing either roasted veggies spag.bol or pizza from scratch. Kitchen will be colourful. Who cares!?
    That`ll do for today.
Have a good day all, whatever you`re at.

Sonastin, you paint such a good picture, its really funny. My OH called in unexpectedly in the middle of a work day last week to pick up some tools he had forgotten. I was sitting reading the posts on here, messy pots in the sink, stuff all over etc. I felt sooo guilty which is ridiculous - he certainly wasnt bothered but I kind of leapt up and started rushing about pretending I was busy!

Thanks for all the kind words and advice about the job. I am going to give it a go on the strict understanding that I am not doing more than a day a week. I just worry a bit that I will get dragged into it all again - I am a secret workaholic - and thats how I ended up doing 50 hour weeks before. I can always walk away if it doesnt work out cant I?

Cat, great news about the money love - makes life a bit easier eh?

And wow FA thats a big list of stuff to do, you go girl.

Emm - sounds like chaos at work. We go into hospital next week for the day for our son to have his Infliximab treatment and I seriously hope its not quite as busy as last time. I felt so sorry for the poor staff. And yeah sometimes you just have to vent it all out dont you or you will go mad.

Hi to everyone else. Off to go and try to finish cleaning the car - taking my parents to visit family tomorrow so want to try and make the car look a bit more presentable but it keeps flippin raining!

Tata - great news on the job - well done!

Glad to see you're surviving Emm and thanks again for being such a good champion for patients!

Well done everyone who is getting somewhere! I had to go out this morning so am late starting again today. One good thing is that the carp that is left is stuff I really want, just need to consider where it should live.

The other stuff, which was getting in the way, has now been shifted off to the tip, CS and giveaways :j

I will have to get back to that painting again soon... just having some lunch and then off I will go.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Finally cracked. Lying in bed this morning I decided I needed to take a day off work to sort the house out. Planned to go to work and ask my boss for Friday off but then remembered the car is booked into the garage near work for new tyres tomorrow. So went in and asked for this afternoon off instead!

I've done a couple of loads of laundry. Prep'd some hm ready meals to take to OH for next week. Just pausing for a cuppa before moving on to tackle the bathroom of doom. Will hopefully at least have the place back under control if not actually demessied by the end of today.

    Afternoon Messies.

Emms, sometimes staff have to be tough, and you get that way for all the best of reasons, bless you. So many patients, so few staff. So you should put family first when you're at home. If you don't clean the house, the house won't hold it against you. Family, on the other hand ....

Tidy carp, that's the way, jps! :rotfl: Well done for getting rid of the rest.

Sonastin, taking a rest from your outings? Taking a break never did anyone (or any house) any harm at all. It's when it turns into months, problems start. ;)

YL, make up your mind to be FIRM, both with yourself and the boss(es), and make up your mind to enjoy the job, then it'll do you good.

Faith, I think that's fair enough about the bedding. Enjoy the new mattress. :)

Lizzie, it sounds as if you're starting with the basics, and that's no bad thing in my experience. At least if the place looks reasonably clean, you know that if someone calls, you shouldn't feel too ashamed.

Demessying here - quite pleased with myself in that, late yesterday afternoon, I took everything off the shelf in my wardrobe and had a sort out. It was all jumpers and sweatshirts, some of which are well past their best, even for slobbing around in, or wearing to the yard. Along with some tatty pillow cases (had them for years), and a stained table cloth, the 'orrible tops have gone into a bag to take to the shop belonging to the animal charity from which we got our pony. They have a notice in their window, saying they collect rags. So, they benefit, as do my jumpers, including two new ones, by not being squeezed into too small a space! have sorted and put away dried washing, and did some ironing while watching WDYTYA last night. Must get back to the family history soon.

Evening everyone. Not much demessing done today as I took my 2 & their cousins out for the afternoon. I did manage to do a few bits:
DW emptied, reloaded & set to run over night
    washing on airer
    Dinning table cleared of clutter
    Maintained the tidy hall
    Fridays porridge soaking
    Bread made, in the BM

Unpacked bags when we came home (normally I leave them festering)

Emms sorry to hear work has been rough, prioritise some good quality family time.

Bearcub, I need to go through our clothes and get rid of those we're never going to wear again, but so much needs doing first

    Morning everyone.

We are having visitors on Sunday. And one of them is a child, we've never had a child here before and I'm looking around and my house is very child unfriendly, that's not really an accident. But I guess it's up to her mother to deal with that isn't it. She "can't wait" to meet my rabbits, well my rabbits hate people so they'll be locked in the pen for the duration. I pray for sun so the child can go outside.

So today instead of painting the spare room I am washing rabbit rugs and other things so there is no smell - not that there's a huge smell anyway but there must be some. I have masking taped everywhere in the spare room and moved as much of the furniture and stuff out as I can. I've washed the new bedding and that's drying in the kitchen. Think that's all today. DH sorted the recycling and some other bits and pieces and I did some small tasks yesterday like sorting out bin bags, shredding receipts and things - all the stuff I put off for as long as possible.

That's another thing, have to find a new place to dry things indoors, one of the buns has taken a liking to the airer and some of my clothes have been nibbled.

    Have a good Friday!
  • Morning all. I`ve been and had my neck stretched again this morning (physio), then a bit of shopping on the way home. I`m still waiting for the therapeutic effect to kick in, but not worried as it took a few hours last time. I was planning a relaxing sort of day after the early start, but the place is a bit of a tip and will get worse if I leave it till next day off.
And I will feel miserable about that. If I could get tough at home like I sometimes do at work, the place wouldn`t get so messy, but here I am just a wimp!
I`ve planned a steak &kidney casserole for tonight, (OH hasn`t stopped drooling since I asked at the pub "d`you fancy snake & pygmy tomorrow?") with dumplings, steamed carrots & runner beans. (Farmshop! Snails have stolen my beans.) I`ll have to blitz the kitchen before I start, as DGD`s spag bol has a lingering decorative effect...
Bailey`s Babe - `but so much needs doing first` - same here kiddo!
JPS- good luck with the painting.
Faith - enjoy your new bedding!
Yorkshirelass - be firm about your job, start as you mean to go on. And good luck with your DS`s hospital visit next week.
Bearcub, we watched WDYTYA on i-player last night. Very moving, and I do like Greg Wallace.
Alec Eiffel - I hope your Sunday visit goes well. I`d never describe my home as `child unfriendly` BUT - when I read on about `can`t wait to meet my rabbits` my hair prickled!! I think I know exactly how you`re feeling! Over the years, when ours were little and then with our fosterlings, and now grandchildren & next doors`, there`s always been and still is One VERY Strict House Rule. Respect the animals here, they are NOT toys! Regulars here know the score, but the odd `new` child visitor is a different matter, and the parents aren`t always able or willing to deal with it. I hope your visitors aren`t like the sort I`m thinking of, but if they are, do not be afraid to speak your mind!
Re the nibbling - do they go for any particular colour? I don`t know if rabbits are colour-blind, but ages ago I knew an old lady whose indoor lame tame hare chewed all the green bits out of her long chintz curtains, as high up as he could reach!
    Have a nice Friday folks.
Drags self off to blitz kitchen....

If anyone put their hands where they should not be they would know about it. One of my buns is very aggressive, scratching and biting are not uncommon. They were abused terribly when they were young and have never really got over it. Our last rabbit had a thing for yellow but with the current nibbler it's all about things that drape over her head. She loves walking under things but if they touch her the teeth come out.

Just to clarify, in terms of child unfriendly I meant we have glass tables, sharp edges and a concrete floor, I haven't intentionally booby trapped the place or anything!
