Clay is tough for gardeners bearcub... I think I'd be tempted to use raised beds and planters.

I did a bit in the garden - finally planted up the flowers that had been sitting in their little plug pots since the beginning of June! Got a bit more of the [STRIKE]lawn[/STRIKE] hay meadow mowed, tweaked a few shrubs to make them tidier and pulled a couple of weeds out.

Well done on the cleaning Snookey - I haven't done any house stuff at all today.

I'm now settled in front of the telly to watch the opening of the games... can't believe how caught up I am in it this year, I never bothered much before. I have pistachio nuts, maltesers and coffee on tap... it doesn't get much better than this!

:) jps! We have an opened bottle of wine in the fridge - think I may just have a smidgeon! ;)

Our garden's pretty small, and is on 2 levels. When we have heavy rain over more than two days (how often has that happened in the last year?), once the lawn can't hold anymore water, it cascades down the steps onto the patio, taking a lot of soil with it - mostly the compost we've dug in. Still, we're gradually getting to know which plants grow well, and which definitely don't.

Had our dinner at the local pub tonight. It's very popular with locals and holidaymakers alike, and all tables were reserved; however, because we're regulars, they gave us a table and an hour in which to order, be serviced and eat our meal. No problem! :)

I intended to tidy up our bedroom today - nada!

morning all. Bit of a tough night which I won't go into. Hope everyone is well. Well done soworried, think I'm definitely going to have to force myself to follow your system over the next couple of days.

Hugs to those who would like them - Cat hope things improve for you very soon.

I'm out in the garden again today but expecting showers to chase me in eventually. I've put a cheeky load of washing on the line - that ought to bring the rainclouds flocking. Hope I can get at least a bit more of the undergrowth cleared.

Saw some of the escaped crickets on the beach stones, basking in the sun. I swear they are grinning at me. We'll see who's grinning later when it's pouring down and 12 degrees!!

So much cooler today, nice for a bit of gardening but not for sitting and taking in the lovely aroma of mown grass and admiring the few flowers that made it through the cold. What a year for weather.

My day lillies (planted last year) have opened their first flowers today - they look lovely. I broke a huge flower stem off them yesterday with a bit of clumsy weeding, so have put that in a vase of water, hoping it might still flower a bit indoors.

I replied to a pm this morning, but not sure it was sent correctly - could the sender check and let me know?

Messy status - the box room floor has been sighted!! I suppose if it does rain I should focus on getting that cleared out, painted and turned into a proper linen/wardrobe room. But if it rains, I won't get as much washing dry. Grr.

Must get some lunch now... ham salad on the menu, I think.

  • Hi Messies!
FW - hope your weekend break is going well.
JPS- ity`s cooler here too. I think it`s rather nice that your escaped crickets seem to be having fun - ok, while it lasts... on the bee-hotel thing - sat outside yesterday evening and noticed another inmate in hotel no 2.
Seriously, JPS, if you care about bees put up a bee-hotel, even a home-made one (lots of info online) as long as it`s on as south-facing wall or shed etc, they`ll find it. Well done on the floor-finding, we still can`t find DGD`s carpet!
Faith - sorry you`ve not been well, but anything further they can do to help with your problem is better than just plodding along putting up with it, and that does mean investigations, tests, etc - I`m sure it`s not about them not believing you.
Snookey & Soworried - well done there!
Bearcub - I was thinking of tidying upstairs too - but then OH suggested we nip down the pub in a bit, so the tidying idea has faded away... your evening out sounds nice - if a bit rushed, though on the rare occasions we eat out we`re never into hanging around afterwards, we like to come home to slob out & digest!
Cat - ((HUGS)). Hope you have a better day today. Take it easy, ok?
Off to get glad(ish) rags on now.
    Later -
I shall bother a chicken (again) Thawed the third of my YS ones - OH is not complaining of monotony, as I served up Kangaroo steak (with chips & salad) last night. Not very exiting, but cheap in Lidl yesterday so I`ll try anything once! Also going to see if my potato bag has grown anything & eat the consequences if it has...with farmshop spring cabbage. There should be at least a few spuds, the stems are wilty now....
Have a nice afternoon all xx

Emm I tried "skippy" as they call it when I was in Aus... I thought it was quite nice. I didn't know they were selling it here now!

I am so going to make a bee hotel - if you have active leafcutters now I should be just in time for them.

I think my garden has a lot of good sites already, as I grow bamboo and leave a lot of cut stems lying around in bundles, and I had a lot of solitary bees last year (seen a couple this year, but I've spent less time in the garden to see them really).

Last year I also saw a couple of ruby-tailed wasps which prey on solitary bee grubs. They are so beautiful but their business is so grisly... well, that's nature I suppose.

Anyway, I need a bee hotel so that I can [STRIKE]obsess[/STRIKE] watch them on a regular basis!

    Afternoon Messies.

Soworried, well done in getting going again - knew you could do it!

Cat, big hugs, hunbun. If you want to offload via PM, feel free.

Emms, yes it was a bit rushed, although we could have stayed, just not at the table. Tbh, it was packed and stuffy, so I wasn't too bothered about staying much longer. It's lovely that the pub has such a good reputation, but we prefer it out of the main holiday season.

Jps, we have two day lilies in our garden, and one has had nearly a hundred buds on it. I think about two thirds have opened so far.

I must clean our ladybird house - that's if we get anymore after all the rain this year. We've seen none since May. :(

Perhaps I'll get around to clearing up the bedroom today, although I suspect Olympics related stuff will get in the way.
