:D Quite right too, it was just that at first I thought you really didn't like them, now I can see you do!

I like them when they're in the faunarium and can't jump at me :rotfl: but I can see I might have to employ a cricket-wrangler for clean outs and getting new batches settled in! Kids are really good for that, must invite my cousin's brood over...

  • JPS, I know what you mean about `addictive` & that `goddess-like` feeling as I`m besotted with my bee-hotel inhabitants - Note - they are NOT honeybees - I am not that brave!!! This is accommodation for solitary bees who are not aggressive as they don`t have a honey stash to protect.
Bee-hotel no 1 is occupied but the only evidence now is the ends of the bamboo tubes being sealed off. This happened earlier in the year, and they won`t hatch till April (Mason bees) but I still keep going out to look at them, talk to them, and call them my `babies`!!
Bee-hotel no 2 is attracting some interest, so far we`ve seen 2 of the bamboo tubes being visited - these won`t be Mason bees now, some other `solitary` bee, one was definitely a Leaf-cutter bee cos we saw it with a bit of green leaf in it`s mandible. I am quite exited and delighted about the whole thing, now notice bees (or absence of bees) wherever I go!!! I`ll notice on MrT`s carpark soon...

Emm we must be long lost sisters, I love bees too! Almost every decision I make in the garden is wildlife (particularly bee and butterfly) oriented.

I'm really glad your solitary bees are doing well, it's been a pretty awful year for many insects - I've seen a couple of small white butterflies and a single small tortoiseshell, but that's it - I'm hoping maybe they're just a bit late this year and haven't been wiped out altogether by that cold early/mid summer.

JPS your post really cheered me up :) Thank you I was having a miserable day too :T

I haven't been on either for a bit as I just haven't done anything at home. I have been really sick recently 2 stomach bugs in 3 weeks (my housework isn't going anywhere but my diet is :D). I'm prone to picking up stomach bugs & I think this maybe link to my IBS but not sure maybe I just have a shot immune system??

Now work are referring to a Bupa occupational health thing as they think they will be able to make me better. They keep asking me all these questions and I get the feeling they don't believe me (well one of the managers doesn't) or they just don't understand. My main trigger is stress & being run down so along with my past history of depression I don't have a lot going for me lol All they keep going on about is to adjust my diet. I went through all that when I was first diagnoised 2 years ago!

To add insult to injurgy I informed them of everything I was going through when I was first diagonised and they could even remember :(

Oh well onwards & upwards. :j

Jps I was going to watch the opening of the Olympics but now I have to work. Lucky the manager is my OH so he has said he'll put it on the big screen for me (he knows how to treat a girl ;) lol)

Anyway I hope you all have a good weekend I have a loooong shift tomorrow & possible Sunday so looks like housework will fall by the wayside again

    Afternoon Messies.

JPS, your long post was so funny! :rotfl: I can't really imagine anyone wanting to keep crickets as pets, although they're quite interesting to watch, as you say. I was a science techie in a secondary school and, when I was interviewed for the job, the Head asked me how I felt about locusts. Locusts?! Turned out that there was always a large tank of them in the main biology lab, and I'd have to feed them occasionally. Luckily, if one of those jumped out, away from the warmth of the bulbs in the tank, it would just go sleepy and easy to catch.

I'm glad your bee accommodation is becoming well-known to bee-kind, Emms. :) We get bee cutters in our greenhouse. Cheeky things go and cut pieces out of the rose leaves in the front garden, fly round to the geenhouse in the back, and bury their leaves and eggs in my cacti pots!

Faith , sorry to hear you've been so unwell. If you're prone to stomach problems, stress never helps, does it? It ebcomes a vicious circle.

Isis, I suspect you won't have any problems with the uni. It's in their best interests to get you back studying.

How lovely that your DS did that, Cat. Myabe he appreciated the fact that you appreciated him to doing it, IYKWIM.

Woken at around 6.20am byt the sound of heavy rain drops. It did get quite misty and humid earlier on, but now it's cloudy and bright, and slightly breezy.

I've done nothing useful, but I am about to fold up and put away the bedding I washed yesterday, then off to the local residential homes I regularly visit.

JPS - that was so funny - and there's me thinking the dog is hard work!!! Please please keep us updated on the cricket situation - I am intrigued! When I was little I remember hearing the crickets in the garden and what a lovely noise they made. Havent heard one for a long time though!

The kids are having a day slobbing about in their PJs which is fine by me. I did plan to take the dog for a decent walk this afternoon but have to wait in for a parcel to be delivered - and I bet it comes about 4pm. No excuse not to have a dust round and a bit of a hoover I suppose.

Sorry to hear you have not been too well Faith. You are probably just run down but make sure you get it properly checked out wont you?

Ah well, off to potter about and keep an eye out for the delivery van. Have a good afternoon everyone x

Thanks bearcub & yorkshirelass I had blood tests on Monday they came back clear which is good. Just waiting for a couple more to come back.

Just feel completley deflated I felt I was doing really well with my condition considering I was only diagonised 2 years ago. Now I just feel like no-one believes me. I feel totally p'ed off.

You're quite right bearcub stress doesn't help at all. It causes 90% of my problems lol

Faith, glad my adventures with crickets cheered you up! Hope you feel better soon - I get very run down in term time and always seem to be catching colds from the kids. It always takes a few days of doing nothing when we break up for me to recover again.

bearcub, I must admit I did give the hopper stage locusts a longing look at the pet store... they are pretty, but I mustn't get carried away!

Yorkshirelass, I love those slobby pj days! Even better when you have a living room picnic as well  I'll keep you informed on the cricket front (I'm sure they count as an MSE pet!)

I'm gradually chipping away at the monstrous mess in the garden - hopefully it will rain tomorrow so I will have an excuse not to start on that massive pile of brushwood!

I think, Faith, that stress causes more physical health problems than is generally recognised. I read on our local weekly paper's website yesterday, that the Isle of Wight has the highest percentage of 'happy' people in the UK. Not sure how accurate that is (our local rag isn't always known for its accuracy!), as we've got one of the highest numbers of jobless in the country, but most people I've met here (apart from the neighbour I came across recently) are almost relentlessly cheerful and positive.

In our garden, JPS, it's almost literally 'chipping away' at our garden, as we have clay soil. It goes from slippery puddly gunk, to rock hard with just a day's warm weather. We've dig in loads of compost and sand since we've been here, but heavy rain washes a lot of it away every year. It's the only thing I miss about where we used to live, the wonderful loamy soil.
