Hello Kitty! So sorry to hear about your uncle, but I gather it wasn't unexpected. Has he left a wife? You've been busy, and the tarts sound really delish. A couple of months ago, we had lunch at the Bargeman's in Newport, and I had apple chutney and goats cheese tarts. Really, really good! I'm not a veggie, but I do like to have a couple of veggie meals during the week.

Hi Messies! I got home from work just after 2.30. More cake has been devoured there,(including todays` on-call DR!) and some left for evening staff...still some left here - should get eaten as DS has a friend round this evening. I used a 34cm round heavy roaster (Lidl, had a glass lid once but I broke it) and talking to a colleague today, her mum did this cakey thing once, we were talking about the variations on the final recipe, as I put chopped dates in mine instead of raisins...and a THOUGHT struck me - I didn`t put baking powder in!!! Well, thank God I didn`t, or there`d have been twice as much to pass around! It`s a bit stodgy but really nice.

Kitty - so sorry about your uncle. However much a death is expected, and however much you may feel it is a release from suffering, it`s still so sad to lose someone you love, even when you have happy memories of them to hang on to.
Buffy - you had me going there! Lucky you, tell us more - it`s making me broody just thinking about puppies!

Laurel - well done you - enjoy your rest then enjoy your garden!

Adela - When you find `disturbing` stuff that you CAN identify, it makes you wonder what else you`ve encountered that you`d not identified...

Marywhooyeah - I tried that `put stuff on the stairs to get taken up later` thing (years ago, when the stairs were clear of books, shoes, and 2 small boxes of DS`s spare computer cables, etc.) but they either got roosted on by the cat, covered in dog-hair, or toppled in a heap in the hall!

Sonastin - just take a few more deep breaths and enjoy your new kitchen. Just don`t look down!

Messy Status report - got home from work, went out again for milk as DGD still in residence had devoured plenty today, went to the pub 4pm till 6.30, got a `take-out` of real ale porter that`s now in slow cooker with a lump of silverside for future reference. Made a fire, had 2 cups of tea, washed up, put a lamb joint in oven for tonight, and agreed to let DGD make some more pizza for her & DS!. OH went for a disco-nap, has just emerged so I`ll wish you all a pleasant evening and find us something to watch on i-player while we wait for lamb to cook...

Love the April fools Buffy :rotfl::rotfl:

I've washed the dishes, mowed the lawn and hoovered the middle bits.

Embarrassingly, the kitchen floor has not been mopped for quite a while and the dust bunnies are probably planning to take over the world in the bits where I don't hoover often. And I haven't dusted either, I can not only write my name but probably War and Peace on the surfaces in this house!

I've got a lot of things to do this week, lots of running around.. but if the weather's off next week I might just get to a bit of de messying. If the weather's good, I'll de messy the heaps of leylandii brushwood that's covering the bottom of the garden.

Morning Messies! Well, there`ll be no cleaning done here today, I`m off to work in a min & won`t be back till about 9.30. On the plus side, there`ll be no cooking either (I`ll heat up the leftovers from last night, cooked extra on purpose), and DS has man-flu so won`t feel up to trashing the place, DGD went home last night... so messy status will remain stable at least!
    Could be worse....

Good luck with your long day at work Emm, hope it passes quickly and easily. Messy status here is situation normal (pretty messy!) and I am preparing to indulge in my patchwork/quilting hobby a bit today, as it's cold and rainy out. I'll probably get a few loads of washing done as the heating is on and I'll use the radiators to dry stuff.

Here's a pic of my second project - it's rough and ready as it was really just a learning exercise. It's designed so that the denim frays and goes fluffy after a few washes. I made it as a slightly larger than usual pillow, and overstuffed it as it's a bolster for when I'm sitting in bed with the lappy. I'd normally not overstuff cushions as much as this. It's backed with plain denim patch pieces.

    Afternoon messies.

Jps, that's really pretty! :T Did you make up the design yourself, or did you get the idea from somewhere?

I hope Emms day goes well, but what a long day! And I thought my dd2 worked long hours.

Kitty, that's the pub - the Bargeman's on the quay. We'd never been there before, wasn't expecting it to be so nice in there, being almost a town centre pub. Very interesting menu. As I said, I'm not a veggie but, having a dd who is, I always take an interest in the veggie meals pubs and restaurants offer.

Messy status? Have done a WM load, which has partly dried outside, but I've brought it in, because it looks as if it's going to rain any moment. Have washed the kitchen and bathroom floors, cleaned the bathroom, and washed the cat's horribly dirty mat. And, have just cleaned the kitchen worktops and the hob.

Just 3 weeks until our tiny bathroom gets re-furbished. :j

:) Thanks bearcub - the design is called "cathedral windows" and I followed a method shown by someone who made a beautiful quilt (I didn't have enough denim for a quilt so made a cushion instead). The traditional cathedral windows used by quilters is a bit different - with the denim one you let the edges fray but with the traditional one they are kind of rolled back and stitched.

    Here's the method: http://www.equilters.com/library/jeans/jeans_gallbaros.html

How brilliant to get your bathroom done... I dream of having mine refurbished!
