My home is a mess

Hi all have been reading your thread the past few days and I am currently renovating another house with my OH so the hose we live in is being neglected so I would do the washing but then leave it in the basket I have a huge mound to get through! Yesterday after visiting here you lot inspired me to get on and I completely cleaned and tidied the front room and dining room did the washing up! Now today I really need some motivation to carry on and get the kitchen sorted x0

Thriftwizard, & Georgiegirl - that resistance of others to one`s attempts at tidying is one of the features in my messy home too!
I`m about to panic.
I`ve just been informed that OH`s BIL (nice but very posh) is up here visiting his old mum and is `popping in` here around 4pm to drop off some books from OH`s sister for him. They`re lovely folks, but so organised it`s scary - well at least it`s only him on a solo flying visit.
I`m plotting carefully where to prioritise.
I shall haul our visitor in via the back door, as hall & stairs are badly messy, I`ll barricade front door with a clothes airer in case OH forgets instructions (he hates moving airer as it always collapses for him).
I can close the kitchen door - that`s that one sorted.
Light fire early, close LR curtains (it`ll be getting darkish by then - phew! So messy LR windowsill is out of view, and LR `cosy`.
Just need to declutter mantlepiece, computer desk, top of dresser, and `find` the sofa again. (Stuff can go in storage box in the hall for now to help barricade front door)
LR floor & rugs are clean & not dog-smelly yet. Downstairs loo is ok, did it yesterday. Washbasin is dire but won`t take a minute (so why did I let it get dire till now??)
Plan sorted.0 -
Hi everyone,
I'm having a sit down with a nice cup of tea. Had a busy day today - went to work this morning - first day back since Christmas, and then back home to 'tackle' the back room and the ironing mountain.
Good grief - it's going to take an age to get through it! I've done a couple of hours worth and I'm going to start again in a minute - wish me luck!0 -
Emm its always the same in our house, a tip when someone decides to drop in.
Got home from the shops and went back to bed. Feeling wiped out by the dreaded time of the month.
Im going to put the rest of the clothes ect away later and finish the last of the washing. Sort the bird out ,put rubbish bags out and Id say thats my lot.
Helen slow down your in danger of becoming a domestic goddess, lol.
Sceptre ironing!! bad word in our house as the iron is a object to be looked at not often if ever used.0 -

Oh Emm, this did make me laugh! I hate it when someone comes at really short notice and I can't think of an excuse quick enough as to why they can't.
I've been known to put large items in front of certain room doors so that people don't venture in!
One day, I won't have to do this! She says confidently...........;)
Hope it went well.0 -
Bless you all, I stopped off on my way into work this morning, bought a couple more cheap containers & some labels, and have boxed everything, stacked it neatly & logically, and labelled it all - no more bunging things anywhere they'll fit! One of them came in today, so I explained what I was doing & why, and she thought it was a great idea & trotted off to buy some for her own stash at home. :T
And Chris25, I know all too well what you mean about your kitchen - DH has done that to me a couple of times - re-organised everything to his own entire satisfaction (only not in nice pretty matching containers) - with the tea & coffee carefully stored 6' high (I'm 5'4", he's 6'3") the saucepans in a neat but unstable stack the other end of the kitchen to the cooker (we had 5 small kids at the time) etc. etc.! Yes, it looked tidy, but only because he'd thrown out all my Le Parfait preserving jars to put other things in the cupboards... it was very nearly lawyers at dawn! He'll never do that again.
And Kazire, not sure that you need motivating - sounds like a rest might be more in order!Angie - GC Oct 25: £290.57/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Emm reporting in with a Smug Glow....
Our visitor has just left, after a very pleasant hour and his obvious enjoyment & envy expressed of our cosy log fire. Could hardly take his eyes off it (maybe I needn`t have dusted?) and kept saying how wonderfully cosy it is in here. Then compliments from OH (after he`d remembered to see his BIL out the back door - that was close!) for doing so well getting LR so tidy at short notice. Then a plea to un-barricade front door soon, ie before he has to let himself in that way.
Tears self away to comply with this request. I shall of course have to bring some of it back in here...sigh.0 -
Well. Last time I had to go into work today. Originally panicking so bad I couldn't leave the house, but mum has been an angel and also the Dr gave me valium...so I'm currently doped up to the eyeballs. Not great but I'm relaxed for the first time since Saturday and oddly clear headed. Home wise, I had a quick tidy, washed up and put the clothes away from upstairs. Trying for the little and often theory!
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time0 -
